true, but there are plenty that stop at the top of st. aubyns (including one that is 24 hour) which can't be much more than 5 minutes walk. There is also a reasonably frequent stagecoach bus that stops right outside

From council minutes... Planning permission was granted in 2007 for the redevelopment of the King Alfred/ RNR site. In November 2008, the council's agreement with the Developer for the Frank Gehry designed project on Hove seafront expired. The Agreement which was to have delivered a new sports centre, 751 flats and a new public realm is no longer to be delivered due to withdrawal of funding from the principal funders for the project.
The vote, in 2007, was 6/6, with the chair of the Planning Committee having the casting vote - in favour.

UKIP in Brighton would definitely mean floods.
The i360 will be somewhat taller than the building at the Marina.
Why do you consider it laughable, out of interest? The authority themselves are having some teething problems, admittedly, and are currently very inexperienced and naive when dealing with planning applications.
That place has absolutely appalling transport links though. At least at black rock, all they would need to do is expand the Volks railway.

Despite these societies we've still had poor planning decisions and wilful neglect that can be described as some of the worst Brighton and Hove has seen which include the Albion Hill redevelopment, the demolition of the Blind School in Church Street, Churchill Square, Edward Street redevelopment, the virtual destruction of King Street and the West Pier.
Thankfully the North Laine did not suffer the fate of Albion Hill/Richmond Street and Edward Street, although it can be argued that the redevelopment around Blackcross Street and Wood Street was poor.
Who was the chair person ?
EDIT - and Dawn Barnett might be outspoken and annoy some people but she's a damn good councillor for us locals.

Many councillors expressed reservations on certain aspects of the application - indeed, the officers' report contained 48 S106 conditions - but were ultimately split down party lines. Not sure why, with the possible exception of Central Hove (the ward in question) being Tory at the time.
I'm sure the same could be said for most, if not all, councillors. Even Jason Kitcat.

It's because of these 'developments' that the Brighton Society was founded.
They were probably a force for good at their inception, but are now seen by many as regressive and reactionary.

I never realised the Brighton Society was founded because of those poor developments. Learn something new every day!
Ha ha - I only met with Dawn last week ( regarding something local ) and the council employee who chaired the meeting was one of the people who complained about her - a slightly awkward meeting !

Cheers, just looking at the Brighton Society website now. Seems they have done some positive things but some would argue they have held up important developments.

Says it all really. Cheers for reminding us of the (pre-funding fail) guilty parties
Please see my earlier post. The Tories, after gaining a majority, refused an extension to a (as I understand it) a routine financial clause in the contract. This extension would have allowed Karis to persue another funding option. And these extensions are routinely given. It did not have to expire in 2008 and peope worked hard to ensure it did not.

When I had my shop in Gloucester Road 6-7 years ago, I found the NLCA people quite rude and hostile, before I'd even stated an opinion on a given subject.
