we want to bring in someone that will actually strengthen us. We don't just want a stop gap because we’re Brighton and we don’t do that"
Nathan Jones
None of Albion’s injured players will be back in time for the visit of Watford.Kemy Agustien remains sidelined with a muscle injury while Liam Bridcutt (hernia) and Andrea Orlandi (knee) have stepped up their rehabilitation, but are still aiming for a November return.
Craig Mackail-Smith (Achilles), Will Hoskins (knee), Leonardo Ulloa (foot) and Kazenga LuaLua (knee) remain long-term absentees.
Assistant head coach Nathan Jones confirmed the Seagulls have continued to work hard to bring in more players following the signing of Leroy Lita, but admitted it has been tough for various reasons.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “We’re working as hard off the pitch as we are on the pitch, but whether that comes to fruition is another thing. Our objective has been to bring someone in, we've unbelievably active in trying to make that happen, but it’s not that easy.
“It’s not just a case of, ‘Right we want you, we’ll pay your wages, do you want to come?’ There are so many different things: geography, family, other teams wanting them, people paying them more, some who don't want to leave their clubs... lots of things can hinder you getting the quality of player you want.
“And as I've said before, we want to bring in someone that will actually strengthen us. We don't just want a stop gap because we’re Brighton and we don’t do that.”
Gianfranca Zola may welcome back the trio of Troy Deeney, Ikechi Anya and Almen Abdi for the trip to the Amex.
*
Both striker Deeney and winger Anya missed last Saturday’s home defeat to Derby with calf injuries while midfielder Abdi could make his first appearance since August after recovering from a foot injury.
