Albion Women’s free-scoring pre-season concluded with a 6-0 thrashing of Barnet at Worthing.Cherelle Khassal struck twice, with Tammy Waine, Lily Agg, Kim Stenning and Rebecca Thompson also netting against the North Londoners.
The Seagulls’ dominance began early on, taking the lead in the eighth minute through Khassal.
The speedy Irish winger collected a pass from Kirsty Barton and unleashed an unstoppable angled drive past keeper Megan Wordington.
John Donoghue’s side doubled their advantage just three minutes later, when Waine executed a perfect lob over Wordington inside the box.
The Bees continued to look nervous defensively, as Vanna Lee’s poor clearance was hunted down by Khassal and Agg, but Wordington eventually came out to clear the danger.
Waine then almost grabbed her second of the match, after shrugging off the challenge of Lee, but her shot cannoned off the post.
Agg scored Albion’s third goal five minutes before the interval, after shooting low and hard into the bottom corner from just outside the area.
Service was resumed four minutes after the restart when Khassal headed in Barton’s in-swinging corner from the right, before setting up last season’s top scorer Kim Stenning for Albion’s fifth; the striker sliding in a cross at the far post on the hour mark.
The Seagulls wrapped up the win with five minutes left on the clock, after Thompson met Kim Whitcombe’s corner with a low and hard shot past Wordington to complete an emphatic victory.
Head Coach Donoghue told seagulls.co.uk: “We’ve scored a few goals today so that always stands out, but as a defence we haven’t conceded again for a second week in a row.
“Collectively we did really well; all the units did what we asked them to do. The players are just now starting to believe in what we’re asking them to do; and they can believe they’re very good players.”
Albion: Sole (GK) (Mangan 45); Carter, Beaumont, Thompson, Cheshire; Khassal (Owen 70), Barton, Young (Walder 70), Wride (Whitcombe 58); Agg, Waine (Stenning 45).
