Tomorrow (Saturday) sees the start of TAKEPART, the biggest community sports festival in the UK, and Albion in the Community will be there in force.
Now in its sixth year, the festival takes place across Brighton and Hove (this year between 22nd June and 7th July) and kicks off with a Family Day event at the city’s Preston Park between 12 noon and 5pm. Over 10,000 people are expected to attend and participate in over 100 sporting and activity ‘taster sessions’ run by local sports clubs.
Albion in the Community will be hosting sessions throughout the day including wheelchair football and mini-kickers for 4-5 year-old girls as part of an FA Girls Football area. AITC coaches and Gully will also be testing people’s speed, passing and football skills on a special inflatable pitch at the park.
After tomorrow, the festival will focus on a series of events across the city. AITC will be running activity sessions as part of ‘Active Forever’ next Thursday (June 27) at the King Alfred Leisure Centre, an event aimed at encouraging the city’s older residents to take part in sport. They will also part of next Saturday’s (June 29) TAKEPART Local event at Wild Park in Moulsecoomb which will feature a football tournament and cricket, climbing and dance sessions aimed at 13-19 year-olds from East Brighton.
Mel Dunn, who is leading AITC’s activities over the two-week festival said: “We have always been a big supporter of TAKEPART, as a fantastic way of celebrating the active and healthy lifestyle ethos of our vibrant city.*
“We encourage people of all ages and abilities across the city to get involved and explore new opportunities to get active. Albion in the Community are proud to be supporting this city-wide event and are keen to showcase some of the work AITC deliver through the power of sport.*
“If you’re planning on coming to Preston Park tomorrow come and find us – get involved in our free sessions and throw Gully a high-five.”
AITC will be giving away a brand new Albion home shirt to one lucky winner as part of this year’s festival. To enter simply follow this link to sign up and receive ‘Albion Network’, AITC’s monthly e-newsletter. The competition closes at midnight on July 8. The winner will be chosen at random and notified by July 15.
