Stephen Dobbie - Talisman? Should he be our water boy?

I was under the impression that the whole point of him coming back to us for 2 weeks during the loan was to ensure that he would be available to play for Palace in the play offs completely except obviously against us.

No, obviously that would have been the preferred outcome, but impossible to achieve unless the start of the initial loan had been later.

The semi finals were made possible by the loan break.

The final was impossible to include unless the deal had started later, but for some reason the deal was started on Jan 31st.

So essentially his loan expires at the end of the league season and the pay offs are deemed to be outside of this arrangement. By default then we could have him back and name him as that sub that will not get on or leave him in limbo.
Either works for me! As long as he isn't involved his talismanic magic would be held in limbo.

No he can play for us in the semi's, you cannot and would not want to name him as a substitute. He is only still a Brighton player in name only.

Wow. This question has been asked plenty before, but you can see why.
Basically his loan officially ends before the final and he cannot sign for us as he has already played for two clubs etc so he cannot play for us again until the new season.
Seems like the most sensible / believable answer.

Because it was impossible under the rules due to maximum length of initial loan being 93 days. This could be in chunks of > 28 days, but the last chunk had to start before the loan window shut, meaning there was no way the playoff final could be covered by it, as the initial loan chunk started on Jan 31st.

Complicated, and hard to explain without a calendar, but the dates just couldn't be made to work to include the final.
It seems clear that, under the rules, he will be a Brighton player (as in, registered with us) on the day of the final. It would be the funniest, most bizarre thing ever if he played for Palace in the semis, got them to the final, then played for us in the final, beating Palace, to then go back to Palace on his permanent deal a couple of weeks later. Anyway, that's never going to happen.

So:
He can't play for Palace in the final, and he won't play for Brighton in the final.
He could play for Palace in the semis, as long as it's not against us.

They're going up automatically anyway, so I doubt it's an issue.

Oh....

How does his loan differ from that of Zaha who was bought by United and then loaned back does his loan allow him to play in the play offs/final if they manage to get there.

It's a 93 day loan.

Zaha is a half season loan.

Dobbie cannot have a half season loan as the same club registration restrictions apply to these as to permanent transfers.

Zaha can play in all playoff matches.

I have just heard from a very reliable source that if Palace and Brighton play each other in the final he is going to play he first half for you and the second half for us.
The only way this will not happen is if the moon is in conjunction with Venus and he will then infact play for Watford
