Data Protection opting in/out

There is a thread on here tonight regarding an email sent to season ticket holders regarding updating their details.

I may have received an email, but routinely delete what appears to be marketing I'm afraid.

Can you please clarify the position. Are the club really passing on details to third parties without giving the option to opt out - or is this simply a fuss about nothing.

The club is in the process of updating the Update Details wording on its ticketing website. The options for fans to update their marketing preferences via SMS, email and phone will be added shortly including an opt out to all marketing information. The club will be required to contact its supporters to relay match/stadium information and will use email to do so, if an email address is provided. The club will never sell the personal data included in its database. We may, from time to time, send you information from our sponsors etc but we will do this on behalf of sponsors/affiliates rather than provide them with our data. The club has appointed a data protection officer and takes its obligations under the data protection act very seriously.
