The history of this is as follows:-

Discounted season tickets were originally offered to "people of pensionable age". Then a bloke from Shrewsbury took a case to the European Court, claiming that offering a service on that basis was sex discrimination. The Court found in his favour. The qualifying age for discounted season tickets was equalised at 60. The Club then had second thoughts and decided the age limit would be 65. But they kept the right to renew at existing prices to people who already had a season ticket.

The Shrewsbury case was about bus passes, incidentally.
