I joined in with the ripple of applause when his name was read out. Why not?

He was a rare loan signing, who actually played like he gave a shit, at a time when we were not blessed with a great side. It wasn't just the goal at Palace - don't forget he was our player of the year, that season - pretty rare in a loanee.

Any applause he received was probably less about him getting (or not getting) one lucky winning goal at Selhurst, but more for the fact he was our player of the season, incredibly exciting to watch, and the main reason we didn't lose every game by 4 or 5 goals that season. Short memories?

(Don't forget he went on to be West Brom's player of the season the year after and they won the league).
