Saw on our local news that Bristol City are putting in for planning consent to rebuild Ashton Gate - with a rail link from Temple Meads-in case their application to build a brand new stadium on a green field site is turned down.It seems you can then just get on a train in the centre and merely walk across the road to the ground.(hoho)

This seems like a good idea to me,and it would appear some locals agree, including their mayor who sees it as a good way to inject some oomph into the local economy.

I've always liked Ashton Gate, though of course it would be completely changed by the rebuild.

Interesting though, what with the Gas planning a new stadium too.(see other thread.)

That'll scupper the plans for the new stadium then. Very odd.

I'm fairly sure it's a back-up incase the new stadium doesn't go through.

Rail links to Ashton gate would be superb, it's pretty annoying for away fans having to travel to the ground if they've come to Bristol by train.

Much of the new stadium, like with Plymouth & MK, was based on the hope England would host a World Cup. Personally, I didn't like the 'box' design of the new ground.
