Absolutely agree. Possibly my favourite ever meal. Is this a traditional Bavarian dish though or is it typical across the great nation?

I have this week been invited to Nacht der Tracht at the famous Lowenbrau Keller in Munich and as exciting as that is, the prospect of some decent Bavarian Schweinshaxe whilst out there is also a massive factor in going.

Good question. I believe it is a traditional southern Germany/Austrian dish which has worked its way across the nation. In fact I have eaten it in Frankfurt, Koln, Mainz, Dussledorf and Berlin. It's not widely available in Berlin like say, currywurst, but it can be found. It was more readily available in the other cities.

I am envious of your trip. One day I will make it to Munich.

Did Northern Rock get anywhere near 6-8 x income ? I know they liked the 125% mortgage deals.

They certainly had 125% mortgages but I don't think they did those sort of multiples. Their usual tactic was to get you to self-certify your income so you could inflate the figure yourself and still come in under the 4-5x multiple.

The good old Northern Rock " together two " mortgage. A 100% mortgage and a 25% unsecured loan. At 100% they never did more than 4 x income.

Self cert was 90% maximum generally , a couple of lenders did it to 95% before it went Pete Tong.

Have you never been to Munich or just the beer festival ? I love that part of Europe, I did the train journey from Salzburg to munich once , real picture postcard tyrolean/alpine scenery,Munich is definitely my favourite German city for ambience, Hamburg for "alternative " entertainment :lolol:

Nope. I have never set foot in Munich. Off the back of Lokki 7's post I was discussing spending my wedding anniversary there last night. The nearest I have been is Nurenburg. I'm familiar with the surrounding alpine/Tyrolean area via snowboarding, and have been to Saltzburg which is truly lovely but never quite made it to Munich. I have trips to Koln and Hamburg lined up for the coming months (aside from Berlin these are my favourite cities so far) and will add Munich to this - with a stop off in Bamberg. I want to explore the northern coast as well; that looks fun.

If you can fit it in , go to Munster , I was based there for a year and never made it further than the average squaddie bars, I went back recently and wa amazed at how lovely parts of the town centre are, very mediaeval loking, cant believe i was there for a year and never really saw any of the place !

Buy-to-let landlords have been warned to watch out for big fees that substantially bump up the cost of best buy mortgages - with some able to push up the effective rate of a two-year fix by more than 2 per cent.

The Mortgage Works – Nationwide’s landlord lending arm – currently offers the ‘lowest’ rate at 2.74 per cent fixed for two years. However, this comes with a substantial 3.5 per cent arrangement fee. On a £200,000 property, this would represent an eye-watering £7,000 charge.

Specialist broker Mortgages for Businesses say with valuation and legal fees included the Mortgage Works deal will mean that over two years the rate is effectively 4.81 per cent.

If you can fit it in , go to Munster , I was based there for a year and never made it further than the average squaddie bars, I went back recently and wa amazed at how lovely parts of the town centre are, very mediaeval loking, cant believe i was there for a year and never really saw any of the place !

Been looking at this buy to let for a while, is there any rules / laws governing who you let to?

Scenario is that I have a relative who is living in housing association accomadation and wants to move from where they are,but are not high enough up the list to be considered for a move, I believe they can have an "allowance" to rent from an private Lanlord.
I would be more than happy to have them as tenant if I was to purchase a house on a buy to let mortgage, but can I rent it to a relative? Is that within the rules?

You can let it to whoever. If I remember correctly Tony Blair bought some property in Bristol for his son and his university chums.

Sure, but I think Programme Seller is asking If his relative , who is living in Housing Association accommodation, can rent from a relative, who would also be their private landlord, and have part of their rent paid?

Herr, on a separate subject, but on the German food thread, whilst I was in Berlin recently, we had a fantastic meal, real traditional German food at MarjellChen.
