Can Gus justify dropping a winning team?

I must admit, when I saw the teamsheet yesterday I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of Ankergren in goal and no wingers, but I have to say I think it was our best performance of the season. The three central midfielders made it much easier for Lopez and Bridge to get forward and this created the two goals. I still have much more confidence with Kuszczak in goal, no doubt, but Ankergren made a good save at the end and his distribution is better than Kuszczak's (imo), and Dicker looked really good. Should Bruno, Kuszczak, Buckley get back into the team?

Ok kushy for Casper...buckley for lua lua i guess as it would be unusual to start with 2 wingers...and personally unless Bruno is totally fit then continue with lopez at full back (please dont roll around in agony again)....Lopez and Orlandi in midfield makes us a bit lightweight

I have to day, Dicker was a decent link man , I think you play your top scorer with the guy who is fit and scoring, then see how things go from there.

Ankergren was surprisingly good yesterday, but he is one o those keepers who is always prone to a mistake. Kuzszack is one of the best keepers we have had at this club and will be back in the side ASAP. I think Buckley should only be included when fully fit (don't risk him), but I think he would of added to the side yesterday; at times we did lack a bit of pace and attacking threat that a player like him can provide.

no way Kooshack won't be playing next game unless he is injured

most people are not remembering the fact that he did injure his back at Ipswich...it was quite evident for those at the match, although it can't have been reported too much because I haven't seen too many people mention it. I believe Ankergren was played to rest Kuszczak just to make sure his back was alright.

With the keepers, it's the same as two seasons ago when Brezovan played in the cup and Ankergren was straight back in for the league. What yesterday does show is that Ankergren is definitely number two. I wasn't at Huddersfield but it sounds like Brezovan wasn't very good there whereas I thought Ankergren was very solid yesterday.

In terms of the rest of the team though, it wouldn't surprise me to see Dicker keep his place for Derby or Lopez stay at right back. Competition for the first 11 and subs is going to get interesting!

If you do bring back Bruno as right back, Lopez doesn't deserve to be dropped completely but where do you play him? Orlandi doesn't deserve to be dropped and nor does Dicker after yesterday. Buckley/LuaLua could also come in and Hoskins has just got his first goal of the season and hopefully a confidence boost. This all ignores the possible return of Vicente and potentially new signing(s) this week. Will be interesting to see the teamsheet on Saturday!

Gus apparently said afterwards that the decision on keeper in the cups had been made weeks ago. I remember the incident at Ipswich but if it was causing Kuszczak real problems, surely it would have been Brezovan on the bench.

I'm a great believer in possession of the shirt and all that. I will be the first to admit I thought it was a poor side yesterday and I was wrong. The only changes I would make is Thomaz back in goal and start Hoskins instead of Cms, purely based on yesterdays performance alone. If a player plays well he deserves to keep his place, that's the way it always was and that's the way it should be. Keeps everyone on their toes.

For the record, Ankergren is number two, all day long for me. Sure he had a bad run of form last season, but the season before he was a big part in our championship side. He has his faults like all keepers and I think Flappergren is a fair nickname. But then Digweed, used to handle crosses, like he was catching a hot piece of coal. Pound for pound, Casper is much better than Brez and always has been.

I agree with that. Hoskins deserves his chance as main striker and hopefully the goal will give him confidence. If they do sign Ulloa, he might start I suppose too. Would be interesting to have the firepower of Buckley, LuaLua and CMS on the bench to bring on if we are struggling to break down Derby.

As for Ankergren, he will be dropped but his performance was encouraging if Kuszczak gets an injury. It is a good idea to give him some cup games to keep him match fit in case of injury.

I didn't know that. Sounds like Casper will be in the cup games though, so hopefully that was a nice little rest for the main man.
