I think Pardew's Reading beat us at the Withdean the season after we won div 2 when Coppell was our manager. I think Salako might have scored their goal.

Thats right. I remember watching that result come in on Soccer Saturday above the Guinness factory in Dublin. I believe it was November 2002. The Coppell, Sidwell period

Pardew's pre match comments:

He told FATV: "For us, The FA Cup is a significant trophy and probably our best opportunity of winning something.

“The Premier League comes first for us, but The FA Cup comes very much second in front of the Europa League and the League Cup. That’s where I put it.”

The joke of it is that every time we've played against his team they have invariably been better resourced than us, be it Reading, Southampton or Newcastle (not sure if we ever played his WHU or Charlton teams) and he's still failed to win. Funny innit.

Do you remember his comments after we WON the league and Reading scraped into second place with a final day 1-1 draw away at Brentford. He said something along the lines that Reading were the real winners of the league, they had the best team, played best, had the best win record, best goal difference and their stadium was much shinier. We just had 6 more points than them.

He is a knob.

Indeed. We went down and Reading got knocked out in the play-off semi's by Wolves. Pardew buggered off to West Ham a few months later. Coppell jumped our ship for Reading

Wasn't he manager of West Ham when we beat them 1-0 at Upton Park with Butters scoring?

Yes, so, we've bettered him at Reading, West Ham, Southampton and Newcastle (twice) now. The only victory that he's had was the 1-0 at Withdean.

Huh. Don't know why I missed them. Perhaps I didn't see the match in the first half of the season so didn't check the second half (the first was postponed).

Well done Acker. I would have to do a similar exercise this afternoon, if you hadn't done that!
