I was wondering if there was a general photography thread on here, but after a brief search, I couldn't find one.

What camera(s)/lens(es) do you have?

I got a Canon 600D with 50mm f/1.8 II lens last week for my birthday, I've recently ordered a 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II for some telephoto action and I'm planning on ordering an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens when the cheques go through!

I have just bought a Canon 5D MK1 second hand with grip. Also have a 17-40 L lens and a 18-270 Tamron lens. It is a very expensive hobby especially if you want to keep up with the latest cameras. The third incarnation of the 5D costs a penny short of three grand.

there is no going back after going DSLR - when i pick up someones small stylish snapshot camera it seems to take ages to take a photo and the focusing and metering is all over the place. yuk.

nikon d40 with some clip on macro lenses which are amazing fun in nature.

Advice: Use the 50mm f1.8 and nothing else to learn photography first. Do not use auto mode on the camera, learn to use Aperture mode, or manual mode. It will make you a better photographer.

I'm currently setting up my new Nikon D800. Haven't taken a picture with it yet.

THIS

All I done was took the camera out and learnt what it does, auto mode sort defeats the object of buying a camera with so much capability

Forget the latter - it will seem terrible compared to your 50mm. Save for a 17-55mm - s/h if you have to.

Indeed. Auto mode will try and expose your shot correctly, and it'll have a go at freezing action too, but it will take away your artistic choices and stop you creating the shot the way you want to. Do not use it.

I have a Canon 50D. I have Canon 17-85 lens which came with it along with F1.4 50mm, 70-200mm L Telephoto and a 10-22mm wide angle. Couple of flashguns, battery pack, various filters etc.
