Bloody Worthing!
Did 40 miles bike Monday with tired legs from weekend running. Bit too near race day but should recover. On Day 2 now of arse sitting and will continue to take it very easy till Sunday.
The 10k is 4 x 2.5K laps so we will be in constant sight of each other with me doing the chasing.
Dream scenario is catching him at the end of lap 3 and running alongside for a lap giving abuse. Not likely to happen though.

Probably not his dream scenario!

Just dug back from your recent posts to see what your new kicks are.

If I wasn't sworn to only buy Nike, I'd have snapped up some Speeds over the last year or so, as they've been universally very well reviewed and the broad consensus is you get nearly all of the Endorphin Pro performance for a fair bit less money. They're really nice looking shoes too, which helps! Saucony have had a really good year or two.

In sort-of related news, Keller Sports are shipping to the UK again. They are very keenly priced on a lot of shoes and kit. I only look at Nike but I suspect they have good prices on other brands.

I pay £7.99 for their premium membership, as it gives 10% off most things, so you get it back after a pair of shoes. They often do 10/15% extra off deals, generally at weekends.

A few examples of some Nike shoes (most/all current models) at decent prices (Premium member prices quoted)...

Vaporfly - £149 - https://www.keller-sports.co.uk/p/nike-zoomx-vaporfly-next-running-shoes-RSCNI0B9000.html
<snip>

Those prices seem almost too good to be true, are they definitely 100% legit?

I'm currently nursing my Nike super shoes for races, but at those prices I'd start to train with them!

Yep - 100%.

A very big retailer across Europe who shipped to the UK before Brexit, but stopped immediately after that, but have now got things sorted out again to sell into the UK, which I'm delighted about. I've bought a fair few things from them in the past and I have no doubt the stuff is legit.

Stuff may take a little longer to get to you, as explained here: https://www.keller-sports.co.uk/faq/is-brexit-affecting-my-purchases-/ - but it's well worth it for the prices IMO.

It's great to have Parkruns back - I've really missed them!

Now done the two back at my spiritual parkrun home of Hove Park, the first one I bagged myself a massive PW of 39.59 (still glad I came in under 40 minutes) was for a good cause though, went round with my other half who in the process completed her first ever parkrun nonstop, huge step forward for her :)

Last week, it was time to hit the ground running (literally) and see what all my lockdown miles had done to me, bagged myself a new PB knocking 30 seconds off my previous best. That in hand with a decent PB at the recent Phoenix has made it a happy return to running events for me. Obviously, I was still well behind a flying Ninja in both of these PB attempts.

Calling The Gaffer knocky1 is it too soon to be asking for table updates?

10K 43.03
5K 20.38 - AG 67.12%

Back to marathon training too, the step up to 20 is just around the corner

Ninja was telling me about your performance on Saturday – you'd scarpered by the time Bruno the dog and I arrived!

Great running. You should escape Hove Park one time and get a PB on the flat.

I’ll do the table tomorrow.

Nah, Hove Park is where it's at – it was my 250th there on Saturday. Power up the hills and sprint down the slopes

Albion shirt spotted at Lydiard (Swindon) parkrun.

I did it in 20:25 a couple of weeks ago (in Zoom Fly 3s) and today went round in about 19:55 in NEXT%. Not sure I I can put it down entirely to the shoes as average (& max) HR was up a few beats. We have a temporary course with a grass section, it was interesting to see that I (/the trainers) performed relatively badly on the grass compared to the paths.

Bloody Worthing!
A bit of PR tourism for me with a visit to Guildford. Bloody hell it was wet. Not a bad course if a bit undulating and mostly on grass, although in fairness it was grass not mud.
Even given this, a 22.36 was a bit disappointing. However, the conditions together with the size and quality of the field (the fast guys must have taken one look out of the window and decided to have a lie-in) meant that my 74.93% was the 2nd best AG in a field of 248.A nice surprise.

Good luck Gaffer in your event tomorrow. Looking forward to hearing the race report.

Good weekend for me. 10 trail miles on Friday, 21:42 (70.8%) at Hove Park parkrun - way behind ben Elton’s Brother of course - and then a very solid 18 miles from Angmerring to Hove this morning. Don’t think I’ve ever got as wet whilst running! Good to bump into an equally wet Ninja Elephant for last 200 metres. Possible sighting of Gary Nelson’s Teacher at west end of Worthing prom?

Guilty as charged, mate. Great run from you, especially in that downpour (which I missed by 30 seconds) but I have to say that you defo chose the right direction in which to run this morning! That wind was brutal.
I was running a handicap session with two mates: one doing 5k, me doing 5.5k and the other doing 6k. We all finished within 30 seconds of each other so that handicapping was quite good.

Ah thought it was - apologies for not shouting hello I think my brain was just too water logged by that point.

Handicap race sounds fun - we did one earlier in the lockdown where six of us ran 5k but delayed our starts based on our recent times - competitive spirits were very evident - like you we all finished within 30 secs.

Some great running from the NSC boys this weekend but not from me. Yesterday was disaster after disaster but painfully enjoyable.

Early start got us to Bewl at 5:45 am. We could see it was going to be a nightmare with a small transition overcrowded with 350 entrants and a muddy quagmire without matting to protect the bike cleats from clogging up with slime as you ran out.
The swim was a narrow 2 choppy laps of a half mile circuit and they started slow swimmers first. Result was constant bottlenecks as the Standard group caught up with the scores of slow swimmers from the sprint distance. I immediately felt weak and not fully there and so decided to quit after Lap 1. When I got there I decided to finish the second lap and do a leisurely bike ride before giving up.(swim100thfrom158th in Standard Tri) So I strolled up the 400m hill (158/158) to get back to the bike BUT when I got there the RIVAL was dried, dressed and ready to leave. He'd been kicked in the ribs, couldn't breathe and had had a panic attack and quit after Lap 1.

So I've won I said. No he said you haven't finished either. But I can just cycle easily and walk to finish to win. Yes you can he said. OK so you might as well concede I said. No he said. But I've got the car keys and you're in my car. I'm not conceding he repeated. After 5 minutes arguing in transition I realised there was only one thing to do and set off into the wind on the bike. It was an enjoyable blustery, leisurely bike ride (147/158).

Got back ready to hit the 10K run with a lot of conserved energy. Gave the rival the car keys so he could get out of the torrential rain and wind. Slowly running myself in for the first 2 miles it felt great and then ping! the calf went yet again. Realised that I had to finish to beat his DNF I hobbled along before finding a semi walking/jog hop with a straight right leg technique saw me do the last 4 miles in 45" and finish the run 148/158 and the whole thing in 150/158.

A hollow victory and glad we still follow the same rules from when we were at school together. He did admit after that he would have denied conceding even if he had and that there was only one option for me.

We then spent the drive home to the pub discussing which one we will do next year. The calf will need some time off I fear and is linked to the foot tendons again. I suspect cycling, maybe wrong shoe.

Well done Gaffer! Sounds like horrendous conditions, so fair play to you for carrying on. I can't really remember the bike ride at Bewl, but I recall the run was alongside the water, which – depending on wind direction yesterday –*probably would've been pretty brutal at times...

Leeds Castle Tri is a good one, if you haven't done that. I'm also fully expecting there to be more mixed relay – or just relay – triathlons popping up, given the success of the one in Tokyo. I'd be well up for that!

They've changed the run at Bewl and it was 4 laps on top of the dam. So the wind was behind as much as in the face. Not brutal but a warm summer gusty soaking. :lolol:

Did Leeds Castle with penny's harmonica and it was good with nice scenery but a nasty hill climb on the run.

Before I stick it on eBay, or similar, is anyone interested in buying my Garmin Forerunner 235?

It's black with a few red details, exactly the same as this: https://amzn.to/3Cw07L3

It's in excellent condition, having not been used since I got an Apple Watch 2-3 years ago. It's fully operational and holding its charge well, comes with the original box and charging cable. The only thing "wrong" is the little rubber loop bit on the strap that you tuck the end of the strap into. One of these: https://amzn.to/3Cw07L3. Alternatively replacement straps are only a few quid.

Get in touch if you're interested and I'm sure we can agree a reasonable price.
