I don't know how much you run, but given the weight you've lost, I reckon you could see some great 5km improvements if you put your mind to it.

I can recall when 8 minute miles required me to be absolutely busting a gut, whereas now they are low-effort cruising speed.

My 5km PB is 20:14, which I recorded twice a few months ago, and I'm sure I've got sub-20s in me once I get my niggly knee sorted out.

I've just got Strava, so happy to log times if there's somewhere I should go to do so?

You are correct that - over the past 10 months - I have seen my 5k times go from sub-30mins being an achievement, to around 26mins now, and I think I can beat that soon too.

You can use the Strava app on your phone, if you carry that with you when you run or if you have a sports watch of some type, it will almost certainly be possible to export your runs to Strava from that.

The NSC running club on Strava is great fun, as long as you don't look at Artie Fulkin's efforts > https://www.strava.com/clubs/northstandchat

I've just wasted a few minutes going through my Strava 5km PB progression.

It's amazing to see 10 minutes come off in 2014/15:

15/10/14 - 32:51
17/10/14 - 32:05
21/10/14 - 31:46
24/10/14 - 31:16
04/11/14 - 31:15
02/02/15 - 31:06
03/02/15 - 30:04
07/02/15 - 29:25
18/02/15 - 29:04
04/03/15 - 28:35
08/03/15 - 28:21
18/03/15 - 28:17
20/03/15 - 28:11
22/03/15 - 27:37
27/03/15 - 26:58
31/03/15 - 26:02
14/04/15 - 25:24
21/04/15 - 24:38
29/05/15 - 24:16
23/07/15 - 22:49

...then came the wilderness years. And since then:

12/11/19 - 21:57
05/03/20 - 21:33
31/03/20 - 20:14

I've had 10 5km times better than the 21:57 above, and 7 of them came as part of runs that were further than 5km.

I switched to a watch and it makes a world of dfference to how you feel about your running. I definitely push myself a bit more when I know what pace I'm running at.

My quick 5ks have come in the middle of 10k-ish runs.

There's so many fantastic runners in the NSC Runners Strava group. It's great to follow everyone's individual progress. I think we could give any football team's fans forum runner's group a run for their money :lolol: Now there's an idea!

Take it easy and Happy Running everyone! #Kudos

I echo Artie Fufkin's words entirely. It would definitely be good to have some sort of NSC running 'event' at some point. Whether it's parkrun or something possible connected to the Albion. Something that embraces all of us, regardless of our speed, fitness or preferred distance (unless everyone's up for me revisiting the NSC marathon idea from Lancing to Falmer (or something along those lines!).

I had a great hills session this morning that I'm still waiting to upload to Strava because Garmin Connect is down. but I know it's about 30 seconds quicker than when I ran it a couple of weeks ago. Roughly the same distance as dazzer6666's effort on the Tank Tracks yesterday, but probably a bit less brutal

It's a bit odd this week - 15 min miles for every session......but have done over 4,500ft of elevation in 12 miles !

NSC 3 stadiums run. Starting at the Goldstone, passing Withdean before finishing at the Amex. Must be around 8 miles which is a nice run out with some decent climbs.

Pub after.

We are bloody good. In fact I reckon we’d all top the England fans Strava table.

Looked it up - start the day before Greg Bobkin ? Cheeky sod - it's only 58 miles from Gillingham to Falmer to Goldstone to Withdean on foot, so EASILY doable in a day. Anyone up for it ?:whistle::D:D

Oi! It was the Gaffer suggesting that, not me. I was about to say you could start in the morning, meet us at the Goldstone and run back to Falmer.

However, as 'doable' as it might be, 58 miles might be a bit of a stretch for me –*I'll stick to the marathon idea
