I'm in Dave's running group, he's a corking runner. At one point today we thought we were going too fast. Guess they're gonna allocate everyone who finished in the left lane the same time?

The Josie time, 29:59 I'm happy to be part of that.

I was on the Prom again this morning but I was feeling a bit tired from the weeks' sessions so I decided just to race it and then call it a day. I ran a 19:00 dead, which is my PB for the course and I went off at the start for a change! I couldn't match the performance of [MENTION=18183]big nuts[/MENTION] last week but I'm feeling capable of turning it on next sunday. :thumbsup:

Not a good feeling being lapped - but the leaders around Hove Park are really shifting so if you're not in full race mode you're just a sitting duck!

In all honesty, I wouldn't like to call it at the moment. I'm really looking forward to it, I don't think there is going to be much between us. Over 10k it was less than 30 seconds as I recall, and I think it'll be a surprise if there's more than a minute between us over 13 miles. I need to be a bit careful this week with the activities ahead of the tussle. I'm not ruling [MENTION=4417]The Complete Badger[/MENTION] out of the running though, I think he's going to surprise himself. My Half Marathon record remains set on the hilliest course I've run on the Isle of Wight (first half of the Brighton Marathon 2017 exempted), so I want to be beating it - 1:36:07. BM 2017 was 1:32:55 for the first half, my aim next sunday is sub 90 minutes.

A crawl around the Bognor PR for me today in 22:41. Rather improbably this was still good enough for an 11th place (in a field nearing 300) and perhaps even more improbably a 2nd AG (72.59%). A slow course is Bognor...........................

Very much looking forward to the Worthing half showdown. Before then I’ve got the bedgebury 10 mile tomorrow which is mainly trail. I’m seeing it as perfect prep for next week, as long as the soft ground doesn’t take too much out of my legs. Because of tomorrow I skipped Park Run which was a shame with good conditions this morning for fast times.

I’m expecting to be around 88 minutes for Worthing as long as the wind isn’t too strong, so should be a very close race. Could it go down to the final home straight on the Prom?

Dave Kemp led a 100+ runners 30" pace train at Hove Park this morning for his daughter who died at 21 a few weeks back. A marvelous celebration of her life.

What I didn't know was that he was a fast runner and the group had a mass sprint to the line with 1/2 a mile to go. Sheer mayhem but I really enjoyed it.

I absolutely loved it. From such a tragic situation came an amazing community feel about it where all sorts of abilities of runner were plodding on together. Total respect to him for doing it - he seems like a great guy.

Meanwhile, I'm losing weight, getting a bit of pace back and looking forward to Weakest Link. Not sure about the sub-4 Brighton marathon, but we'll see...

Sums it up well. Could not have been easy for him but what a turn up. 160runners from 500 getting the Josie 29:59 time.

I finished at sub 6 mile pace that was a big increase on the 9:30 train pace and Dave was leading us home.

Fairly new to running, just over a year into it, but a couple of questions about Strava that I was wondering while out yesterday morning.

What’s the best watch to wear alongside Strava? Don’t want to spend too much, up to £100, as I’m by no means a serious runner. And how accurate? I run with my phone at the moment but would rather not. I’ve seen the TomTom runner 2 for 80 quid which looks alright.

Secondly, how will it calculate your best 10k? Does if count anywhere along your run? For example if between 2.5k and 12.5k or does it have to be the first 10k only?

Garmin 35 £130 is ok for me. Think there is a cheaper one. The 25? I think the answer to your question is 2.5k to 12.5k sort of thing. It doesn't count as a real pb though as they have to be in races (NSC rule 34, sub section iii) and rules out someone running 10k downhill with a 70mph wind behind them.

Experienced the ups and downs of running today. After a month of hills and feeling on a good level decided on an easy level 16 mile progression plod. All went to plan but at 15 miles the 1 mile cool down was nearer a 1 mile of staggering weak thighs. [MENTION=616]Guinness Boy[/MENTION] will have to do the Brighton Half as it will interfere with my aims of the Moyleman and Brighton Marathons.

I decided at the beginning of the year to start training for a sub 3 hour marathon; I'm five weeks in now and it still seems achievable. It's been fun building up the mileage and alternating between easy pace long runs and long runs that start easy pace, progress to marathon pace for a majority of the run, and then go all out at the end. I was first finisher at parkrun the other week when I was running the last 5k of a 26km run doing this latter type of run - much to my surprise! (I time it so that I tag on to the back of the parkrun pack as they set off so that I don't have to stop running, and I couldn't see who was at the front so I didn't realise until the end when they handed me the barcode that I'd overtaken everyone!) - it was obviously a small turnout though, I'm not fast enough to do that on a typical week!

Just seen your 18.5 mile progression run segueing into Parkrun on Strava. Great run BUT I want to do that Parkrun. When you're not there, of course.

As long as the watch is compatible with Strava it will be the exact same interface for whatever watch you get. Strava is just a software that basically presents the data that is stored on your watch in a slightly different way on a social platform so that other people can see it (if you choose). For example, I have a really cheap watch (and very outdated now), the Garmin Forerunner 25, but the data that is collated from my runs will be presented in the exact same way as someone with a newer, more expensive watch - so I wouldn't worry about buying a cheaper one; just make sure it is compatible with Strava if that's what you want to use - https://www.wareable.com/running/strava-compatible-watches

Also, Strava will register 10K PB's as part of any run you do - i.e. if you did a half marathon and manage to run your fastest 10K consecutively during any point in the race it will register that and update it as your new estimated best 10K - you can then make that your official PB on there if you wish (I assume you were asking more broadly about Strava, not the NSC league tables).

Just seen your 18.5 mile progression run segueing into Parkrun on Strava. Great run BUT I want to do that Parkrun. When you're not there, of course.

Haha it's a nice and small one - although that's not uncommon here. Most weeks we only get about 35-40 people there. Very different to the massive turnouts at parkrun's in the UK!

...and I might well do. Eight miles in the bank early this morning. Took it very, very easily indeed as still worried about getting injured but took the brakes off a teeny tiny tad in the second to last mile to test the legs. Plan now is a short speed session on Weds, another 5 miler Friday and then 10 miles next Sunday, involving a hill or two. If that goes ok - and I just mean I get round without injury - then I'm in for jogging round Brighton. 2h to 2h 10 target seems sensible.

Cheers mate! 2"20 is sensible but, as we've already discussed I'm not sensible and TBH running that slowly for that long will bore the bejesus out of me.
