I think Mr Banana has done track sessions there, he may be able to give some information. As a non runner I won't add more than that, won't make a table of finishing times afterwards but would enjoy the spectacle.

I love racing at Withers. But that's a reflection of how boring I am - I don't like to have to think about the route too much when I'm waddling. I've done my PBs there. I don't know how you book it as my coach, who is a complete don, does all that. I think it may just be a case of seeing when it's free. I think they charge £5 per person.

I haven't been on here for a few days so only just seen this, but the best of luck with your HM, which I imagine is taking place right now.

Mine was yesterday and I recorded a 1:46:00 finish at 5:02/km. It won't get me far on the NSC leaderboard, but for a first attempt I'm very pleased. It's the best part of ten minutes faster than my training times. The thing I was most pleased with was that I held an almost identical pace throughout with every KM within a few seconds of the rest. I actually felt fine at the end, I'm more knackered at the end of a Parkrun. I sprinted the last 0.5km and probably should have gone faster earlier. But this was all about experience and I was a bit cautious as I didn't want to fall off the cliff, so I'll be better for it next time. I'm going to spend my afternoon deciding which HM to sign up to next and aim for sub-1:45.

Brilliant. Looks like upping the distance is no problem for you. Good new target but sub 1:40 looks to be a possibility within a year.

Great work on the table Ninja Elephant

I don't think I've ever "raced" a 10 mile run, but my best time for that is apparently 1:02:34, which was set during my half marathon PB. There's a 10 mile race being held near me in a couple of months, so I might have an updated time after that. My best and only marathon time is... 4:41:29. Yeah, definitely have unfinished business with that distance

After volunteering at a local 10K this morning I've made the spontaneous decision to race a 10K that's happening next weekend (damn race atmosphere!). It's likely I won't get near my PB, but I'll give it a crack. My fitness is fairly good at the moment, so you never know.

Completed my longest run in prep for Berlin 33km/20.5miles in 3:18. Tried a few km at target race pace after half way but I suspect I'll finish around 4:15.

Three weeks left, starting to feel excited - let the tapering begin!

Well done mate - you beat me fair and square. Just back from Seaford where I clocked 1:49:38 (tbc). However I'm really pleased with this

a) my target was 1:50
b) conditions weren't great - very blustery wind, making it difficult to time the splits
c) ran a negative split
d) felt strong at the end...........................
e) quite possibly my best HM time this millennium!

Haven't opened this thread in months. I'm still completely ****ed up.

First picked up a knee injury in July 2016 when I was running 5+ miles a day. Took a break and saw the main man at Corals in Hove who reckoned my left knee, on which I had ACL reconstruction some years ago, was just grumbling because I was putting a lot through it. He gave me some exercises to strengthen it and to get back out after and see how it got on.

It wasn't completely better, but I was able to run a bit. About 20 miles a week seemed to be my limit earlier this year.

I'd then not run for a bit until I was in Florida a few weeks ago. I like running when it's really hot and I did a 5km plod which, although hard in the c100 degrees, was enjoyable. My knee felt OK. I then went out 2 or 3 days later - same distance and no ill effects. I then went out the very next day and within half a mile my knee was feeling sore.

Like an idiot I carried on running on it for a couple of miles more before it was so sore I had to stop and walk back to the house we were staying in.

For the following days it was more sore than it has ever been and even walking was difficult. It didn't help that this coincided with us moving up to Orlando and the theme parks. 20,000 steps a day was hard, although my knee gradually got less sore and, although still limping, walking became a bit easier.

The improvement has continued, slowly - it's been about 3 weeks now. If I bend my knee, I can feel it's still 'heavy' but it feels like I'm walking on it OK for about the first time.

I feel at a bit of a loss as to what I should do. Should I go back to Corals, talk it through and see what he says? Should I go to my GP and go down the path of having it looked at properly - although I suspect that will take some time? Any suggestions from the good and the great on this thread appreciated.

I love running - both for physical and mental reasons - it just feels as though running doesn't like me. I enjoy taking my bike up over the Downs too, but that's a lot less fun in the Winter, particularly with early mornings and evenings being dark.

Sorry to hear you're having knee troubles Bozza. When I first started running I had tendonitis in both knees which I always thought would prevent me from being able to run. I would play football on sunday, and then not be able to walk properly for the next week, until football on the sunday again. They would both be sore and stiff. Then I started running more which helped to build up the strength because it was the same movement, rather than the change of speed and direction of football. I then started doing a strengthening plan which included lunges, squats, bunny hops and a lot of core work. All of that has helped massively and I no longer have any problems with my knees. I'm sure my early posts in this thread were about managing my knees and having to hold back a little bit for fear of damaging them, but that's not the case now through running, and doing the gym work.

I would never recommend someone to not seek professional advice, but for me I found doing things other than just running is the key.

Cycling, swimming and rowing have also helped me, plus getting on the crosstrainer in the gym. Cross training in general is important I think, in my experience certainly.

It's definitely reminding me I need to crank up the pace over that length. :lolol:

I did a 10 miler this morning, I read an article in the Runners World saying that if you're doing a steady sunday run to mix it up by running the first 3 miles at casual pace, then running 4 at faster pace, and then the final 3 at a slower speed again. It happened to be those 4 miles coincided with the hills on today's run but I managed to just about hit the session;
9:09. 9:13, 9:19; 8:06, 8:10, 8:07, 7:30; 8:52, 9:41, 9:23

Also, the Belgian fella I mentioned before, ran the South Coast Half in 1:25:12 - 4th overall. Crazy pace - once I've got big nuts and Curious Orange in my pocket over 5k, this guy is my next target! (@Capricorn I'll leave alone, for now!)

If you go the GP route get your story right. Tell them how much it's interfering with your everyday life and it's hard to do any exercise which is getting you down. Don't say it's a problem from running as they'll tell you to rest for a few months. It must be worth trying to get an x-ray and physio, if possible.

The NHS won't look into my achilles as they say it's degenerative and I shouldn't expect to be able to run at my age. They are wrong on both counts. I'll be back.......Good luck.
