Well done for finishing. Sounds horrific, although there are some that would pretend to be out of it just to avoid recognising @knocky
Guess you won't be doing much training in Bangalore!

Thanks, appreciated. I will be in Birmingham for Weakest Link but probably Bangalore for Phoenix. I’ll be insisting on a hotel with an air conditioned gym!

As for today I’m not sure what went wrong but being ordered in to the shade by a man a little bit my senior  was probably the best thing that happened aside from seeing so many Brighton fans there. It seems the 9.30am train cans have been replaced by a 9.30 tempo run for many. We’ll be the slimmest drinking club in town in a year...

Bloody Worthing!
41:25 for me. Better than I was expecting after a marathon last week but I’m now fairly sure I could go under 41 with better preparation. I was only a few metres behind the 40 minute pacer at halfway and feeling fine but like most people I struggled in the heat and my tired legs kicked in and I was off the pace between 6-8km. Still, it’s a PB so if someone can update the table I’d be very grateful!

Good to see so many people there today too. I feel like I knew half the field!

Were you wearing an Albion shirt? That 40 minute pacer looked like a hard guy to argue with.

OK. there was an Albion shirt out there (at least one) but not you. Anyway: well done - a PB in that heat is worth raising a glass to. (The event used to be run on a Wednesday evening on a different route that started and ended on the Leisure Centre athletics track but around the same time of year. I'm not sure whether a boiling hot evening is preferable to a boiling hot morning.)

52.39 for me. I’ve now run this three years out of the last four and got 52 mins, 51 mins and now 52 again. Today was by far the worst, getting cramp and being so affected by the sun I didn’t recognise knocky1 at the end. That’s definitely my last ever Worthing. Brilliant event, well organised, but I simply can’t run tempo in the heat.

I can't stand 10ks for that specific reason - ruining at pace for that long really isn't my bag. As it happens I got back from Ibiza yesterday morning and was in no fit state to race - but even without that, you wouldn't get me to the start line I'm afraid.

Excellent. You've got the patent on a new running phrase ruining at pace. Sums today up.

Having spent a few hours with you and Big Nuts the wee count was 3 to me and 0 for you two. Hydration very important. Not that it helped me run today. Says senior man.

As I said just times last weeks Worthing 5k Parkrun by 2 and have it as your 10k.

Blimey, this wil be known as the race that was so hot, two NSC heavyweights retired from road 10k’s. Reminiscent of the Ashes tour in 2013/14 with Guinness Boy playing the mentally tortured Jonathan Trott role & Knocky1 the I’m Graham Swann I used to be good in my heyday card! Greg Bobkin as Marcus Trescothick because he doesn’t like touring (away from Hove Park)

Rubbish I'll be back as a 90 year old Geoff Boycott and my Mum will beat you to the finish line holding out a stick of rhubarb.

I had no idea at the time but I gather I met you today. So welcome to my sticker book! Great work with your time in that temperature too.

You did and thanks very much. We seem to know a lot of the same people too!

:lolol: great analogy. I have to make the distinction between 10ks and the rest. I just don't enjoy them and my times are always the same. I get a lot closer to mid-table obscurity the further I run so it's 10 miles and over for races from now on and parkruns when I fancy letting the brakes off. Which kind of gives me the weird dual targets of getting close to my HM and mara PBs next year but trying to go sub-23 again as well!

I wouldn't say I've retired, but more like KP a few years back - the only way I'd properly race a 10k would be an extraordinary set of circumstances combining. [emoji23]

In a cave
I enjoyed Sunday. Tested my legs post marathons at Park Run on Saturday at Tilgate Park with a leisurely 27 minutes. Yesterday I decided to give it a go and came in at 49.12 just 18 seconds off a PB. Had nothing left in my legs and still shaking off the ends of a cold so mentally decided at 5k no PB possible so tried maintained an even pace. In hindsight I should have pushed harder as was a lot closer to my PB than I expected. Found a nice "view" to follow between 6-8k so that certainly helped.

A month off races for me now, but no retirement planned, I plan to keep the NSC SNAIL flag flying high.

Ragnar is by far the most fun I've had at a running event. If anyone gets the chance to take part in one, I'd highly recommend it.

Our relay team had 2 vans of 6 people. I was in van 1, so we had to get there for the start at 12pm. We set off at 9am from Toronto, driving an hour and half east of the city to our starting point in Cobourg. It was slightly daunting knowing that we'd be running all that way back and then the same distance again to get to Niagara Falls.

We got checked in, watched the info video, spent half an hour decorating our van with magnetic banners and window marker pens, then we were at the start to watch our first runner head off. The 10 second countdown, then she was off with 7 other runners (there were 172 teams in total but the starts were staggered between 7am and 1pm based on predicted pace). 20 metres in and she dropped her headphones, not the best start but quite amusing. The other 5 of us jumped in the van and drive a couple of km to cheer here through the halfway mark, before heading to the first exchange point. It was only about 5k for the first leg, so pretty quick before handing over to the second runner.

I was runner number 3, so it wasn't long before I was picking up the baton (wrist band) and on my way. I had the first long leg at just over 12k, with quite a few hills to contend with. It was also a hot afternoon, around 25 degrees by then but thankfully there was a bit of a breeze off the lake. I managed to catch a guy from one of the teams which had gone off quickly at the start. He started putting in some fast kms when he heard me behind him, but I think I broke him when I kept up before he eventually had to stop to catch his breath. In Ragnar speak overtaking someone counts as a "kill", so I had the first kill for our team.

Our 6th runner had it super hard. By the time she started running it had reached 29 degrees, with no shade and very little breeze, and she had to do 16k. She was running on trails, so there were only certain points we could meet her and give her water and ice. She was really suffering but it made it through to the first handover point where we passed the baton to our 2nd van and had our first break. It's really weird that you barely see the other half of your team except at these exchange points.

We went for dinner and headed to exchange point 12 where we took over again. By this time it was getting dark and unfortunately our first runner got a bit lost because of some bad sign placement (a few runners got lost at the same point). This meant she did an extra 5k on top of her 7k, and it cost us about 30 minutes. Unfortunate, but I think that's just the nature of these events. My second run was the most boring, 8k straight down a main road. The only way I could make it interesting was to go fast and try and overtake as many runners as possible (I think I got 3 kills). The team captain was runner number 5 and he limped through his second leg after an existing ankle injury starting flaring up. He was down to do 15k in his last leg but there was no way he'd make that.

We handed over to the second van at around 1am, this time we were back in Toronto. We all crashed for about an hour at one of our runner's apartment. Not a great deal of sleep but it was something. We were back running again at about 5.30am, with the sun coming up. We did some swapping of legs so our captain only had to do 5k on his bad ankle, which he bravely took on. This meant I was now doing the 15k run, but that worked in our favour because I was quite a bit faster than him. It was a hard run but I still had enough in me and I got at least 20 kills as we were now catching up with all the slower teams who started earlier. Our running group had 3 teams and one of my kills was a good friend from one of our other teams, he won't be living that down! I did 15.4k in 1.07, which I couldn't quite believe having already done 19k and had barely an hours sleep.

Eventually we handed back to the other team and headed to Niagara for the finish. It was quite a party atmosphere with most of the other teams turning up to cheer their final runners home. It was just after 2pm when our final runner came in and we all crossed the line together. We cracked open our post race beers (thanks to the brewery who sponsored us) and reflected on an incredible 26 hour journey.

Wow, that sounds bloody amazing and superb running from you too. Much more fun that a road 10K :)lol:) though I would definitely be killed rather than killer. One for the NSC weakest link winning team to take on I reckon
