Currently lying about while Mrs Orange does all the running. Okay that is entirely due to me needing to recover from my recent hospital trip, and hopefully I'll be well enough to run again in the next couple of weeks. Any thoughts of a decent time at the Surrey Half in March are gone. 🙁

Tough run today despite the good running conditions.

Took the off road path from the Marina to Newhaven (15.6 miles) in 1:57 something. Comfortably the quickest I’ve ever run the course before.

Last time was 2:10:00 and I lead most the way, this time I decided to slug it out with a 2:58 marathon runner and came off second best, albeit by around 20 seconds. Our times were only 3 minutes off the course record so plenty of positives as I’m carrying around half a stone more than usual. I’m presuming weight impacts shorter distances more as I had a lot more fat to burn than usual, once the carbs went.

I am in such a dreadful state right now! I went out for a nice 60 minute leg stretcher following yesterday's dreadfully slow parkrun around Hove Park. I started quite near the back and worked my way through the field. I had a bit at the end, so I was able to smash a few folks who thought they'd have me... Including that guy who is shouting at himself almost the whole way around and grunting like he's in a cheap porno. It takes all sorts!

I've done a lot of strengthening work in the gym lately, and my intention is to do a leg session on the monday with the intention of running the effects into my legs during the rest of the week. I'm nailing down the marathon plan this week but I'm going to focus on the Worthing half first of all, before then building up to the marathon.

Another long one for me today. 34k at a similar (too fast) pace as my run from 2 weeks ago. Running along the trial by the lake is the equivalent of Brighton seafront, lots of runners going in both directions. I'm generally one of the faster ones but there's always some fairly elite guys out for their long runs too. One guy (who I've seen a couple of times) passed me at some ridiculous pace. He was one of these guys who looked like he could run a 2:30 marathon without taking a breath.

5 weeks out from my marathon and I'm happy with my progress, despite being a bit too fast on most of my long runs. Looking forward to getting the last big training run done in 2 weeks time. There is a certain smugness seeing all these runners just starting their training for the spring marathons :D

Good 25k outing today taking in 3 cornered copse, Chattri, Newtimber Hill and Saddlescombe up to the Dyke - so four tough Hills.

About a zillion runners out today as the New Years resolutions kicked in. Brief sighting of soistes with RunBrighton.

Need to enter a HM - anyone doing hastings this year?

Good call. I'm in for Hasting's Half 24th March https://www.hastings-half.co.uk/ Three weeks out from Brighton Marathon I'll go for a fast time.

The following weekend is Sussex Trail Events AW 20 mile flat course along seafront from Shoreham to Ferring return. Only 2 weeks from BM but will be my only 20 miler with 9" pace prep for Brighton. Beware Arena80. They have chosen it as one of the 12 club races for 2019. https://www.sussextrailevents.com/1718-2/

Yet to run beyond the 4 Parkruns for last 2 weeks but now 11lbs nearer normal weight and ready to switch from eating and drinking to running.

I'm currently sitting at 83kg (13 stone), I feel that this might be playing a role in my current lack of fitness! I have never weighed this much, certainly not since taking up running. I attempted 8 x 500m sprints at lunch time today. I failed hilariously, and cut it to 6 when I was dying a miserable death. Good job there are months to the Brighton Marathon! But only 5 weeks to the Worthing Half. Although I'm contemplating abstaining because I don't want to pay £40 for a Half. Maybe I'm being tight, but running the streets of Worthing for such a fee? I'm not sure I'm prepared to.

Time for my percentage theory on fitness and sitting back if not hitting the targets.
Percentage theory you're at 90% + fitness level. That's good.
Sitting back rule next. You're struggling in training. Time for dropping all stress and speed work. Time for jogging I'm afraid.
Not a time for pushing on. The body and mind tells us.

Unless your @Big Nuts of course........

Would agree......and add that excess weight apparently adds something like 8 secs per kilo per mile

January is always a great month for a meet up as typically everyone is doing bugger all. Maybe we should confirm after the FA cup draw. If we get a home draw then that would make a lot of sense.

Arena do a club best 6 from 7 local Parkrun League. 4 based on time and 3 on AG. The first mass turn out is PP on 16th Feb. this will now be my focus run of the next 5-6 weeks. 5th round of cup weekend.

I have an opportunity to pick up extra club points at PP. Anyone breaking their course PB gets bonus points. I am a course virgin and so before that date have to run the course with the objective of setting a time slow enough to beat on the 16th.

Still with me? I can meet up at PP Parkrun anytime this month.

Isn’t that the equivalent of racehorse owners running their horses slow to lengthen the odds next time out? Sounds well dodgy to me, I might have to report it to the Arena Ethics committtee.

:lolol:You are right but at my subsequent dismissal hearing I will point out that racing the might of Arena80 on the day pulled me along to a faster time. I'll be aiming at 21:14 at my virgin PP which is about current form.
From the rules:
We will be keeping the bonus points for Arena time and age grading record breakers, and parkrun age category records. However in addition a bonus point for each runner will also be available for each race if they achieve a PB during that race. A first time run doesn’t count, so if you haven’t run any of the above events yet, i suggest you do so before the scheduled event. The only event excluded from this is East Brighton as most people haven’t done it yet and don’t want any tactical slow runs beforehand just to get a point!
