All the lads should've seen us coming
Everyone was blue and white
Everyone was running
All the lads and lasses
All with smiling faces
Going down Old Shoreham Road
To see the Brighton Aces

I think it goes something like this:

All the lads should've seen us coming
Everyone was blue and white
Everyone was running
All the lads and lasses
All with smiling faces
Going down Old Shoreham Road
To see the Brighton Aces

oooooh the lads we should have seen it coming !
Archer spotted in the shoreham road giving dave a bumming!
Everywhere was green and white ,
the cash was really flowing,
all the fans were shafted,
the police were fooking clueless!
no more running down the shoreham road to see the brighton aces.

In a pile of football shirts
When I was an iddy biddy boy
My Grandma gave me an iddy biddy toy
Palace Fans hanging on a string
She told me to kick their ******* heads in

All the lads, you should have seen us coming
Everywhere was Blue and White
and everywhere was running
all the lads and lasses
and all the smiling faces
running down the shoreham road
to see Chris cattlin's aces

I went up to Selhurst just the other day
singing singing Brighton are the Champions
I saw Terry Vennables crying on a wall
I said to him
Whats up my friend
He said the Palace ran again
Singing Singing Brighton are the Champions

the song is Buttercups and roses

Those were the days my friend
I thought they'd never end
We won the league three times in a row
We won the FA cup
And now were going up
We are the Town
Oh yes! We are the Town
NahNahNahNahNah! Blues! etc

Yeah, that's closer to what I remember from the 70s. The tune is Blaydon Races, an old Geordie folk song, hence the association with Newcastle Utd.

Typically, the first line should be 'Howay, the lads ...' although a lot of fans sing it as 'Oh, the lads ...' which makes a bit more grammatical sense than 'All the lads ...' for what it's worth.

Here's the original lyric, for anyone who cares ...

Howay the lads, ye shud only seen us gannin',
Passin the foaks alang the road just as they wor stannin';
Thor wes lots o' lads an' lasses there, all wi' smiling faces,
Gannin alang the Scotswood Road, to see the Blaydon Races.

Glad someones cleared that up, the other song that makes me cringe a little is "In your Luton (for example) slums...." as this only really works with Liverpool, as it's taken from an old song called 'In my Liverpool home'

just sayin like.
