I think the biggest problem with JL is that you can tell which scenes are Whedon scenes and which are Snyder scenes, and as a result, the feel/tone of the film is just all over the shop. I actually got more pleasure out of it than BvS which was a complete mess with awful characterisation and...
I agree. It was a pleasure to watch.
I also saw Justice League last night. Whilst a jumbled mess with an awful villain, I enjoyed the characters (except Aquaman) and there was fun to be had there.
That if you find the thematic elements present in Blade Runner to be interesting, then there’s lots more media that could tickle that particular itch for you too.
Very very disappointed by Dunkirk. Soulless, poorly told and characters that lacked depth. I wouldn't recommend it unless war films really are your thing.
I'm not disagreeing with your latter statement. I think in many ways they've modernised the character, without rehashing the back story we all know. I also think, for me at least, my age helps me to be fairly objective when analysing whether something is good or not. I appreciate it won't be to...
I've seen all of the incarnations. I find the superhero genre a brilliant escape and Spider-Man was my favourite superhero growing up, so such an affinity will always mean I watch these films. It doesn't mean I can't be objective though. The first two Tobey Maguire films were excellent superhero...
For my two cents, I've seen Baby Driver and Spider-Man Homecoming this week. Thoroughly enjoyed both although neither is without their own flaws. Spider-Man's lack of real action and cliche villain relationship hold it back for its genre. And Baby Driver was great fun, but almost took itself too...
There certainly was a lack of plot. I didn't see the trailer so can't comment on how many of the funniest moments made it into the final cut, but I did think it had its humorous moments. It felt a bit like it wanted to be a ,odeon day Reservoir Dogs, but the lack of plot and character...
Has anyone else seen Free Fire? I saw it today and I can't work out whether it's the worst thing I've ever seen or a hidden gem... either way, it's a very peculiar film!
I finally got around the seeing Hidden Figures today. It's a touching, at times comical and always well acted film, albeit one that is very on the nose with the subject matter. I'd highly recommend it though.
I also saw Logan on Friday. Again, I'm sure it'll be devisive, but to someone who is a...
I just felt that it all seemed a little hollow. They eked out what they could, but essentially 20 years passed where he didn't think about his family and then he ate one childhood treat and became an emotional wreck.
I guess the biggest issue I had is it just needed more time to truly explore...
I agree about Ali. I wouldn't have given that award to him. I thought the supporting actor category was one of the strongest, and his performance didn't stand out that much for me.
I also agree that I'd have preferred La La Land to win, as I previously stated. Like you say though, not worth...
I really do beg to differ. Crash is a walking cliche of a film, with awful acting and all the subtlety of an elephant in a china shop. Then again, it's hard to expect anything else from a film anchored by Sandra Bullock who is probably the most overrated actress in Hollywood.
Saying that, I'd...
