Of course he's going to say that. He's the team's main central striker, the whole side is built around providing him with chances. Stockdale isn't going to come out and slate him in the media when he's going through a bad phase (and 1 goal in 19 is a particularly bad phase when the whole side is...
Actually Houghton did agree. He dropped him for the Charlton game and a number of other games soon after. His words were supportive, which is good management, but in reality, he took him out of the firing line as he simply wasn't performing.
And working hard is a prerequisite of being a...
Which also reiterates what a lot of us said. When he isn't scoring, he isn't adding a lot to the team, and he relies too heavily on those around him to make him look good.
Last night was a perfect example. He got a hat trick, but in terms of what he had to do for those goals, it was minimal...
I agree, he's even recognised as a crucial cog by people like me. He had a long period earlier in the season when he was woeful (and like you said, he deserved the debate), but the turnaround has been massive, and he's coming up trumps when it matters. Criticise him for the woeful, praise him...
Let's deal with this bit by bit as you're clearly having one of your slower days.
Firstly, I did say that and I stand by it. That comment was after the Ipswich game on the 29th of December. Hemed put in a performance that was nothing short of embarrassing. He worked hard, yes, but my dog runs...
I stand by that statement based on that performance (and many others, in fact, where he's been incredibly poor). If a player adds nothing to a team with their quality of performance, and the only positive thing people can say about a player's performance is "he tries hard", then that player...
I see. He should try reading around the subject a bit then. I stand by everything I said in this thread - there are times this year when Hemed has looked like a non-entity of a footballer and has massively impeded our progress - but I've also said in numerous other threads that I've been much...
To focus on the thread subject line rather than the debate that's trying to be had undermines your argument, not anyone else's.
What I'm saying, and it's good that you've focused on one line rather than the whole post, is that I've made up my mind that he didn't play well last night (and no...
I didn't start the thread and the OP has a right to ask the question about whether he thinks the guy is good enough for this level or our team, even if you disagree with it. That doesn't make him less of a fan than you because he has a critique.
I've put forward my views on Hemed and they are...
I totally agree. My issue isn't with the personel or that we had a switch in formation, it's how we played it. We played 4231 (which is just a more attacking 451) at the end of last season but having Tex in the hole made the formation much more of an attacking threat.
For all of my criticisms...
Saying that we'd be better with any one of our other 3 forwards up front isn't turning on the players. Neither is questioning what a player actually brings to the side or how they're performing. If you hadn't noticed, there also a thread that praises Goldson's performance last night.
I'm a ST holder, I go to every home game. I said I totally get that we have injuries and the formation didn't help him last night, which is why he needed to hold the ball up (as Bobby did) or, alternatively, offer better movement as an outlet (which Wilson or Baldock would've done). He did...
You're right, I apologise. He did create the goal that should've stood, albeit his cross was miles behind Stephens who actually made it look like a good cross. Maybe a 2 out of 10 for that alone.
On the debate about crosses, do you know what often makes a bad cross look like a good one? A...
Unfortunately I don't give ratings for "effort" as I see that from all of our players this season.
I give my ratings for impact on the game and, you know, footballing ability. Hemed had no impact on the game and showed no footballing ability.
He didn't hold the ball up, he didn't win the ball...
