only other one I can think of is Horsdean. Looking at pictures of it, it possibly had some sort of track around it at one point and is kind of in a natural bowl-esque setting
it would definitely depend on getting ownership of the site. To be honest B&H Council might welcome a nice lump sum in the current climate.
I would say that the footprint is definitely there, it's a fairly big site but keeping the athletics track may be a barrier
something like the Saracens home ground is my thinking. Keep the north stand, have a large-ish covered south stand and covered seating behind each goal (that could be removed for athletics meetings)
re: the locals. A lot of their initial fears were born from a misguided reputation of football...
perhaps but a major reason why running tracks are not popular in mens football is that it hampers the atmosphere- to be honest this is less of an issue in womens football where things are less raucous, less hostile etc
what you could do is have permanent stands along each side (and of course...
no one would need to destroy Withdean as an athletics venue, but it has also been used for football for many years. We're only talking about 10-15 home games a season and if the Albion could tart it up a bit, it would benefit the athletics club as well
The Velodrome is a bit of a stretch though!
No need to get rid of the track, keep it as a multi use venue. What I wouldn't want is the Albion renting it from the council as they took the mick last time.
Let the Albion buy it from the council, spruce it up and keep athletics (and non league football) continue there alongside it. I'm...
there's been talk of something, anything, being built there for as long as I can remember. Doubt the site is big enough for a stadium
would be great to use the volks railway as a way of getting to games though
not opposed to this. We know that the site can accommodate crowds of up to 9,000 ish (just about) and some of the infrastructure is already in place- 1 stand, floodlights, a pitch, changing rooms etc plus the stadium has such a prominent place in Albion LORE
challenge would be wrestling the...
Withdean is probably the only one in the immediate vicinity that could be developed as you're starting at 2,000 all seated capacity so about a third of the way there.....but it would need a fair bit of tarting up.
Also as we know from our time there, it's quite expensive to rent for what it is
I do think that our womens team will never take off all the time that they're playing in Crawley
there must be a viable alternative that can be developed somewhere, but I don't think the Amex is the long term solution
