[Cricket] Third test: England v India at Southampton, Jul 27-31

I would think the selectors would get a bit nervous about Broad, Finn and Plunkett being a bit too similar. However, that might be just what they are going for at Old Trafford.

Especially bearing in mind Onions was a mainstay under Moores mk.1 wasn't he?

I actually though Woakes bowled well and was unlucky in this test, I'd give him another runout and bring Plunkett back for Jordan on what is likely to be a lively surface at OT. Finn comes into the picture for me if Anderson is suspended but I'm not sure they'd look to play Finn and Plunkett...

Pankaj must have had one of the unluckiest test debuts I've ever seen 0-179 and he was probably the pick of India's bowling.

I'd rather not think about that just yet!

I agree. He did have a decent game as captain and scored runs. Bell, Ballance, Anderson and Mooen all have cases as well. However, as anyone that has ever played a decent level of cricket knows, it's a helluva lot easier to be a dynamic, forward thinking captain when you put 570 on the board in...

Do we have to stop calling him that now? His batting is starting to look like the weaker suit until he gets to grips with the short ball!

[Cricket] Third test: England v India at Southampton, Jul 27-31

That is exactly the point I can't understand about the Indian position, it's hypothetical either way at least with the technology you can eliminate balls that pitch outside leg or hit outside the line. The benefit of the doubt has been built into DRS anyway. It really confuses me why they don't...

Not really, I certainly wouldn't have given them the best part of 2 days to score 350. They would have thought they'd won the lottery in comparison to where they ended up.

This is all set up rather nicely. I just hope our lack of a frontline spinner isn't going to be an issue dismissing them on a wearing 5th day track. Great to see Cook in the runs again.

You are grossly underestimating the ability of this inexperienced but supremely talented batting card.

I agree. By all accounts he got a snorter today - that happens when you open up. He looks like he has an excellent temperament and a decent technique. The technique is easier to work on I'd suggest.

Yes If all our bowlers were firing OR we had a super reliable Swann type spinner to go with Anderson and Broad we could have enforced. As it is, give Broad and Anderson a nice rest, give ourselves 130+ overs to bowl them out and give Mooen Ali every chance of getting the best out of the...

Fully fit, he's an outstanding cricketer. One of the best performances I've seen from an England bowler when he justified the decision to drop Finn in the Melbourne test in that series. He was pacy, naggingly accurate and swinging the ball round corners.

100% agreed and anyone who has umpired seriously at a decent level said this was what was going to happen. What doesn't help is that some teams get to opt out. It must be far, far different umpiring with DRS than without it. One or the other for the Test umpires I say, not both. For the record...

It was 13. Only Adam Gilchrist in the history of Test Match cricket betters it.

When does Bresnan come back in the reckoning? I understand there was a feeling from the ECB that he'd dropped in pace. A Yorkshire dwelling mate of mine tells he's back around 85-87 mph. He's got a very decent test record for a 3rd or 4th bowler and no. 8 batsman 575 runs @ 26.13 and 72 wickets...

Very keen on Cook opening up with Woakes today, it looks like it had the effect of firing Broad up. We need more of that from the skipper, I get a feeling that Broad and Anderson feel a bit untouchable. I'd like to see us getting Ali into the game sooner rather than later - a few overs just...
