Quite amusing the amount of people who wouldn't believe he wanted to leave.
He asked in the summer also.
Cheers Liam. Just a shame a great player will be remembered in respect to a transfer request.
Time to play hard ball on the fee now.
If he is acting on Sunderlands part then they will give him a fee for his role. Yes.
Club's now employ agents to recruit players. It's all very messy. You can often have 3-4 agents involved in one deal. Bonkers.
I suppose that depends on the clubs belief that the clauses will be met.
I wonder what the clauses would be. Obviously avoiding relegation and maybe 50 league appearances (obviously just guessing here).
You would have thought the avoiding relegation clause would be the biggest of all. Perhaps...
The thing is, in most cases now, a transfer offer does not come in unless the players agent has been instructed, on his clients behalf, to try and find a deal elsewhere.
Football transfers no longer happen in the lovely football manager mould of :
Club decides they like a player.
Club calls...
Not handing in a transfer request is, sadly, absolutely no indication that the player is happy here.
Bridcutt has asked to leave verbally. The key financial ramification of handing in a written transfer request is that the player will lose any right to a contracted sign on fee.
The player, if...
Officially, yes.
But hardly any transfer is conducted by this manner any more.
A transfer offer is now usually only made because the players agent has "suggested" to the buying club that his client would be "interested" in joining them.
Sadly, probably 99%+ of deals are technically "tapping up".
It's not caving in if someone offers the correct fee.
Surely if an offer is made and it's enough to let him go then it is FAR more wise to have the money NOW and have 3 weeks to decide where to try and re-invest it?
The later in the widow you do the business, the higher the fee.
