Calais is about 5 miles closer to Faversham than the Amex is and I reckon you could drive from Faversham to Folkestone, get the car Eurotunnel, and be in Calais about 20 minutes more quickly than getting to the Amex (assuming the 35 minute crossing time is accurate).
