It makes it very hard to be non-discriminatory, though. If you were allowed to treat people all the same, then it would be a lot easier than having to treat them the same in some circumstances but not in others. Its a matter of knowing which circumstances. It must vary from person to person...

A libel case would be a crap shoot. There is no evidence about what Rodriguez said other than the two players concerned, and libel (being a civil offence) is decided on balance of probabilities. If A says yes and B says no, who would be believed? But the problem Bong would have in a libel...

It couldn't be cleared in that sense. These FA tribunals don't have a "not guilty" verdict - they have "Proven" or "Not Proven". Which means that no-one who ever comes up before one of these enquries is ever cleared - the mud always sticks.

Possibly the issue is that if this was a criminal trial (and what Rodriguez was accused of would have been a criminal offence, so it has some relevance) Rodriguez would have been allowed to declare that he was not guilty in between the charge being made and the case being heard, and afterwards...

This is a big part of the problem of race relations. To what extent is it racial discrimination to treat a black man exactly as you would a white man? It's a possibly valid point that Rodriguez shouldn't say to a black man what he would say to a white man, but it's also a definitely valid...

Modern cameras show moving pictures with recorded sound. The alleged monkey chants were allegedly clearly heard among the boos by a couple of BHA fans from at bare minimum twenty yards away, so they must have been either very loud and clear, or else accompanied by arm movements.

I am astonished how many of you can't imagine why anyone would hold their nose while telling someone that they smell. Have you never been in a school playground? As for apologising, as I understand it he apologised for being rude. Didn't Bong say that Rodriguez has apologised - not that he...

I agree the "bigoted" bit. There's no question that any group of fans who can collectively spew out the tirade against Northern people, as you do, knows very well how to be bigoted. You're lucky to be able to take advantage of the legal loophole that says anything goes in the discrimination...

Well, bully for you. I've never been to your new ground, and given the degree of hatred and prejudice so many of your supporters have for anyone from the North in general and the Burnley area in particular, I think I know when I won't be welcome.

Honestly, if your hatred of Burnley is so great that you curse the seats for being wide, wooden and having plenty of legroom, because you'd prefer a narrow plastic tip-up where you scarcely have room to stand up ...

"Brighton have asked police to investigate whether there were monkey chants aimed at players during their game at Burnley last Saturday." It's the first line of the link provided on the first post of this thread.

You would need pretty good hearing to pick out an "oo-oo-oo" among a loud chorus of "Boooooooo". Ther emust have been some monkey-arm-armpit movements too, or these two people who reported it (if they are telling the truth) wouldn't be able to pick it out. That's why the cameras should get it...

[Albion] Bong being abused all game.

So the story is, Brighton officials have gone to the press to say that they haven't heard any monkey noises but they think someone else might have? Doesn't sound much of a story so far. The good news is, if it was in the second half and within range of the away end, the cameras opposite would...

Izqierdo and Bong were not booed for the colour of their skin. Bong was booed because he made repeated allegations about Rodriguez which Burnley fans do not think are true; Izqierdo was not booed at all.

He was booed because he accused a former Burnley player of racism and the Burnley fans do not believe it is true. The more serious the alleged offence, the stronger the reaction.

This is the reason for the total failure of understanding. Brighton fans (many of you, anyway) take it for granted that Rodriguez said exactly what was reported by Bong, and that he fully deserves to be investigated, that he would have fully deserved his suspension if it had been proved, and...

[Albion] Bong being abused all game.

I'm following the occasionally-used British principle "innocent until proved guilty". I know most of you Brighton fans are absolutely convinced that Rodriguez said what Bong thinks he said and there is absolutely no possibility of mishearing. Well, I'm not. Possibly that's a function of our...

[Albion] Bong being abused all game.

Actually, there is one other reason for covering your mouth while saying "you stink", and that's because holding your nose is a common verbal way of saying "you stink". And because of the shape of the hand, if you're pinching your nose you automatically cover your mouth. Only you can know for...

Yep, I can confirm that I disapprove of both of those chants.
