Really? I suspect there are thousands of firms up and down the country contributing to their staffs xmas do. Think there is a £150 tax exemption per head for xmas parties.

It is that simple. Have done it loads of time like this. Set a deadline for payment and state that any late payers need then to take the deposit themselves and get a receipt to prove to you it's been paid. Pretty much most of it can be done online or over the phone.

If they had said up front then I probably wouldn't mind but personally I would not expect everyone else to pay for mine when I organize things. Problem here seems to be the underhand way of getting a freebie.
