    So how much does the actual meal cost then as £1 tip from each person seems a bit light? Isn't a tip normally about 10%? Also, just to clarify, did the others know your admin fee was including your meal or did they think it was just for the tip?

    It is that simple. Have done it loads of time like this. Set a deadline for payment and state that any late payers need then to take the deposit themselves and get a receipt to prove to you it's been paid. Pretty much most of it can be done online or over the phone.

    Probably the underlying theme is that the OPs know they are in the wrong and posting on here is a last desperate attempt for vindication of their actions which, it seems, does not come that frequently!!!

    If they had said up front then I probably wouldn't mind but personally I would not expect everyone else to pay for mine when I organize things. Problem here seems to be the underhand way of getting a freebie.

    I've organized countless xmas meals in the past and would never dream of charging extra to pay for my meal. Fair enough about the tip but you should have been up front about it. You might have got away with them paying for your meal but you should have told them all first. Does anyone else...
