Great time Bozza! But how the hell do you sleep after a 1'30 pb finishing at 1030 at night?! If I go out on a pacey shorter run after 7 I find it difficult to sleep, let alone a balls out half!

Aggressive Bozza?! Wow! Absolutely not intentional, to you of all people. I was merely trying to ask what I thought was a pertinent question, but I guess different people read things differently in these ever more stressful times.

Why didn't you also put in bold the final 8 words of that quote, as clearly relevant to Gove's point? He seems to be saying don't do more than you usually do just as an excuse to stay out? If you are used to running for an hour, why would it now be appropriate to run for 30 minutes, whilst...

Would that be more for very decent runners with long distance races under their belts? Were I a novice, psychologically I would want to know I had the distance (less say a 10K) in the locker as well as the legs, rather than be into the unknown with 12 or more miles to go.

Not every week, but prob 2 out of 3 in 2 months leading up. Mix it up with maybe a 10k or half race or two. That said, build up from 12 to 14 to 16 etc. Don't go straight out and do a 20! And definitely a 2 week taper and be strict about it. You cant improve your potential performance in last 2...

Agreed, but you still need 5 or 6 16-20 milers in run up to marathon and that's quite a lot of commitment timewise.

I think that's about spot on! My half pb in April was 1'33. Double and add 20 mins would be 3'26. My best marathon was my 3rd and last (Brighton 2012) at 3'27. However McMillan race predictor says my marathon time should be 3'15-3'17 with my half/10k/5k times. Feels like I have unfinished...

That is brilliant. Many thanks for sharing! So who's up for the beer marathon. I think its around 105 beers!!

I agree with Bob they are reasonably accurate if you put the training in. That said, I think for a more accurate marathon time you need at least a guide 10k, but preferably a half, rather than just a 5k sprint. My only 5k time was at a Parkrun last Saturday-20'04. And I forgot my Garmin! So...

That mileage will be plenty. You will know by now if they are going to cause you a problem.

Thanks Johnny and really pleased you have your mojo back. Half the job is the mental side! Well done! I'm actually elated. Managed a 1'33'38 to finish 283 of 2073 in the Paddock Wood Half today. Took 9 minutes off my PB and have well and truly celebrated since (!!) but wish all Brighton/London...

So how is everyone's taper going (if doing Brighton)? Did my last run this morning prior to my PB shot at Paddock Wood half on Sunday. So rest, carbs and 3 points on Saturday for me from hereon in! Anyone else doing Paddock Wood?

Where was the pain. Outside front/side area of your left knee? Would really advise taking it easy tomorrow, and certainly no more than 13 and a very modest pace. Your knee was telling you something, which continued overuse now, with not enough time to recover, will mean you get on start line...

I think I would see how you go this week. If you feel energised (and be honest with yourself) come Sunday then go for it, but at the pace I suggested max. In all honesty its not going to make much difference either way. Its also good discipline occasionally to force yourself to run slower and...

DO NOT DO ANOTHER LONG RUN!! In last 2 weeks you cannot add to your performance but you can certainly detract from it! A full taper is critical to be in best shape on race day, particularly if you are injured. Instead get some exercises in, or go see a physio, for what sounds like ITB trouble...

In my opinion you have done your long runs too quickly (all faster than race pace by the looks!), particularly the 2 longest ones so no wonder you are shattered. That will also help to explain your shin splints-too quick too early. Conversely I'm not sure you have done enough long runs to be in...
