So even though there is plenty of evidence and published
Accounts that show that Sami and Oscar had similar budgets relative to
Gus. (Bigger in cash terms each year true but top 10 or thereabouts every season) you don't
Think that's true. ? Fair enough.
Ulloa. If he deserves no credit for him then probably not worth going through the long list of everyone else which will naturally contain some duffers but also some hits.
Even the toughest of observers would say , I dunno, it was 50:50.
Good recruitment didn't stop the day he walked in and...
Last year we probably had a top ten budget but finished 20th. The year before we had a top ten budget but finished 6th.
The year before on the same budget relatively we finished 4th.This year we have I guess (relatively to your Derby or Boro's or parachute clubs) a top ten budget. Again. But...
Agreed. He increases the playing budget "substantially"every season. And is happy to fund the losses that that entails despite the big increases in commercial /match day revenue and the flat/declining TV revenue.
And that has meant a top ten budget in 12/13, 13/14 according to the accounts of...
Costs are going up but sadly income isn't. TV revenue in the championship is falling. And Albion's match day revenue is likely to be falling due to the decrease in attendance/STs
I'm not trying to say anything other than playing budgets have increased substantially year on year. Cos they have.
I...
If the only cost of a player is their transfer fee .
The other measure is the overall cost of the squad in fees and wages.
Or wages/turnover or position in the league.
But transfer budget profit/loss tells you only so much.
Most clubs (20 in 13/14) in champ make a profit on player sales.
Or...
All of a sudden - nope. We spent heavily last season. Let's hope these players this year deliver. But bloom hasn't suddenly coughed up.
Decent signings - let's hope so. But not necessarily related to free transfers or loans.
They still cost a fortune . And anyway we also bought Baldock...
Of course. But the accounts and public statements of the club show that Funds were made available for Oscar and substantial funds for Sami.. Oscar's squad cost £1m+ more than Gus. His overall spend went up.
Whether they made the most of it. Who knows. Why Do you think they had less to spend or...
Yes the playing budget is higher than last season.Barber confirmed it at the forum last week.
As it was last season. It was "substantially" higher than 13/14 and 13/14 was about c£1m+ higher than 12/13.
As for quality who knows. We shall see. Kemys or Leos ?
But both expensive.
Well no he has a team of scouts . As does Paul Winstanley.
But he closed the deal. He oversaw some good signings and some bad signings and in the end was sacked. Too many bad ones .
But Why no credit, at all, for the good ones. ?
Oscar had zero apart from the £2m for Grabban ..except we ended with DaveR, .and Upson, Andrews, and the fortune spent on Kemy not easily dismissed. Etc The budget they have isn't "transfer fees", it's fees + wages. He had a big budget. And he finished 6th. He had a bigger budget than Gus.
Yeah he had to make do with our 3rd biggest signing of all time and 10 other signings that he approved that all contributed to the biggest playing budget in history of club. This year looks a lot better but it's a myth to think Oscar or Sami didn't have big budgets. They did. Bigger than Gus.
