Would modern pop music be better if....
It's effectively the same. Pitch shifting to match a reference pitch. On the vocoder the reference is manually played on a keyboard but the effect is the same - horrible!- boik

Mr f@@king Blue Sky is my most hated track of all time. Probably not the first to use a vocoder, but definitely the worst.- boik
