Not gleaned from NSC, but by coincidence I’ve just come across True Detective season one on Sky Showcase.
[Originally made for expensive to watch HBO].
First impressions, it’s really good.
I binge watched an entire season of Wahl Street on a long flight today. Follows Mark Walhberg in his growing business interests and some personal stuff. I really liked it, probably helped because I rate him as an actor.
On HBO Max unfortunately, is that available in the UK?
This is becoming ever common. Before Amazon Prime was literally the only subscription required for their stuff.
Now entire seasons past or present, or to see batches of new episodes sooner, require additional sub’s to other entities such as HAYU. Cynically, I wonder if they’re ultimately...
The Killing (Danish), you may’ve seen it, is brilliant in that genre.
From your country , have you watched?:
Ozark
Bosch
Justified
The Shield
Goliath
All immense imho.
Three times we’ve given Succession a go. Partly as Radio5 and Times critics say it’d incredible, literally “the greatest TV ever”. We have wide tastes on progs and movies, I enjoy Machiavellian plotting.
But we get about 5 episodes in and give up. Every member of the family is depressing and...
Sometimes perhaps a personal interest can also add to a love for a series? I find the Cold War and espionage interesting, making The Americans even better. They pulled it off.
Spiral is incredible. But (I think it was just us?) we got bored by the last series. Another murder of an ethnic Algerian by ethnic Algerians in a Paris sink estate. Seemed to be same old storyline. Not given up on it though, amazing cast and characters.
I also loves Wallander …. the movie...
If Sopranos is 10/10, what value would you give to:
Borgen
The Killing
Bosch
The Americans
Also perfection imho. I’d love to have never seen them, so starting all over again.
Put off by HBO etc demanding money for 10 or 15 year old series …. hesitates ….I’ve finally got round to watching The West Wing. 24 years late to the party.
Not obscure at all, I know.
It’s fantastic, love it and the characters straight away.
Well. We’ve just completed The Sopranos.
Bought the dvd’s a few months ago, it was a long haul and we loved it.
Managed to not cheat throughout and google later events, so that controversial ending was a genuine surprise. Loved that touch.
Next, we’ll give Succession another go. We half...
Thanks, I’ll pencil that in once I’ve finished The Sopranos and The Blacklist.
I’ve just finished Season 1 of The Blacklist, I really like it. If it goes downhill or crashes later on, so be it, I’ll drop it at that time. James Spader is immense in what I’ve seen so far.
