No, defending yourself against slander/libel will generally be about whether someone did or didn't do/say something. For example, you can't say that a celebrity was shagging around unless you can prove it. Ok, I don't know about that bit.

I thought that with slander/libel cases the burden of proof was on the defendant to prove that what they're saying is true. If the FA find him guilty, that on it's own won't be proof.

We already knew he asked for a personal hearing. And we've known for a while he's employed a lip-reader and decent lawyer. Sounds like no news.

I think it's probably best for everyone if you don't.

In the footage we saw we couldn't see, but presumably there's more footage, otherwise him getting a lip-reader would be a waste of time, and the charge would be based on what people at the time heard.

Thanks. Can't read all of that as I don't subscribe, but it says his appeal includes "evidence from a lip-reader testifying that he did not use words attributed to him by Bong" That suggests that there is footage of his communication with Bong, that the FA had seen before they charged him. I...
