I googled: "england germany player ratings"
I checked all the papers that came up, I didn't leave any out to suit my argument. There was the mirror, and I also tried the dailystar, but the website wasn't working for the latter...
Your original post said "Very poor and untried England team tonight".
So even if those 3 didn't do as well as others (which is pretty debatable, see below), you were wrong. Everyone here knows you were wrong. That you can't admit it just makes you a laughing stock.
On those 3 players...
Your posts that you've quoted say that it was 'great once they replaced Welbeck and Lallana' and 'the 2 substitutions changed the complex of the game', as if the starting line up wasn't decent in the first place. It's not exactly saying 'wow, I got it wrong' is it.
Yes, but there aren't just the two options: be a sheep or be mad.
It's fair enough that you thought the starting line up was very poor, but having been proved totally wrong, most of us would hold our hands up and say 'wow, delighted to see I got it completely wrong'. But not you, oh no, far too...
Maybe we're just talking about the difference between optimism and hope/belief. If you're happy ti just see us turn up and try, that's probably where many of us are now.
Not that long ago many of us thought we had a decent chance. We were close in '90 and '96, had a good team in '98, should...
Actually I think we lost it by drawing against Nigeria. We knew that finishing second in the group would mean playing Brazil in the afternoon sun, whereas winning the group would have seen us face Turkey, and then a Semi-final against Brazil in the evening, which we could have won.
Alright, alright, I'm not that old.
Aside from the Brighton effect, I think age has an effect on optimism with England. In late teens and early 20s everything seems possible. Losing in tournaments time after time wears you down after a while.
Talking of admitting things BG, are you prepared to admit that you got it totally wrong? We had already got a goal back before the substitutions (and it was only 2 outfield substitutions, not enough to change your claim that the team was "Very poor and untried" )?
Well I certainly enjoyed it. Friendlies are normally such dull affairs and having a young team against a decent opposition made this one good to watch.
I don't have any expectations at all. Like many here I used to have high hopes for England as we've had some of the best players in the world...
