Personally I've been ****ed by ankle grief which, in the absence of any other obvious cause, may well be gout-related. Tho if it is, I'm 6 days through the 10 day pain cycle, so hope to be out and about again sometime next week.
Completed week 6 this morning without the aid of the whipper stick woohoo! Some light whimpering experienced around the 23 minute mark but otherwise not unduly unpleasant.
Can only admire not only the lycra, but they way they trot along effortlessly, nattering away all the while, sometimes with dogs on a string, sometimes pushing prams. They make it look SO easy. Maybe I should invest in lycra. Or then again, maybe not. Best just stick to my Scotland top eh?
Had to abort a run for the first time this morning. W6R2. Looked comfortable on paper. 10 mins run, 3 min walk, another 10 mins run. Had to abort 3 mins from the end. Not entirely sure why, other than maybe a combo of doing that upward slope in PP with a hefty cold wind blowing right in my face...
Managed to complete the dreaded W5R3 at first time of asking this morning. Can't pretend it was pleasant, but I didn't cry once. Cheers all for the encouragement :clap2:
I guess the theory behind W5R3 is that at some point, if you're serious about wanting to do a 5K, then you're going to have to ditch the big breather in the middle. Or repeat W5R2 until you feel able to do W5R3 without the breather. Interesting stuff.
Not looking forward to W5R3 tomorrow one little bit. You suddenly go from 2 x 8 minute runs with a 5 minute breather in the middle to a straight 20 minute run. Peanuts to the seasoned runner but a total mindf**k to the novice. As Kevin Keegan would say: 'Do I not like THAT!'
Can I ask how folks are measuring speed. Would quite like to do that via an app, don't really want to be shelling out on a bit of kit unless it's absolutely necessary.
Well... I can easily trump you (upwards) on all three of those metrics, but hear what you're saying and big cheers for the encouragement. All being well, should be about ready for for first Preston Park park run in a month or so. If you ever decide to give that one a go, be sure to drop by and...
I know all that. But you're still being dropped straight into a 20 minute run scenario whereas you were only ever doing 5 or 8 minutes before. I DO trust in the programme because it's never let me down thus far. And I've been following it to the letter. Still seems a huge scarey jump tho. W4R3...
That W5R3 looks distinctly scarey. It's like they suddenly took away the safety net of giving you a bit of of a walking breather. It may well be all in the head but still looks a bit of a major challenge to anybody trusting implicitly in the programme. Just seems a bit of a harsh reality slap.
Cheers  Reason I asked is that I was starting to build up to the Park Run at the start of the summer. Was doing not bad til I got zapped by gout in three limbs one after the other. Complete pain in the arse, not to mention the right foot, the left foot, the left hand...
How does the scanning thing work? Do you just sort of wave your barcode around in the air or do you have to queue up at a barcode reader at the beginning and end? Would queueing affect your PB?
With the days now getting cooler and the evenings drawing in, I'm making suitable preparations. Salads are being dodged, Netflix has been fired up and the 5k-To-Couch app installed on my Omsung Phine. Bring on Autumn!
