It's a local government planning issue, adjudicated and determined by civil servants, who are supposed to be the experts in their field. By politicians, I'm referring to MP's, which is where where the OP was having a playful dig.

The National Planning Policy Framework issues guidance on flood risk. If a Local Authority Planning dept issues planning permission where obections have been made showing that there is indisputable evidence to indicate that flooding will occur, then they are negligent, not the politicians.

But which God, Yahweh? Allah? Ganesha? et al. Could make a difference depending on location.

Unless I'm missing the point, what have the floods got to do with politicians? Mixing the terrible situation that so many people have found themselves in, with cheap jibes at politicians, of whatever party, is somewhat childish, in my opinion. If there was just one thread for the Tory haters it...
