It's amazing how in 120 years we've gone from:- A spectacular upsidedown flying train carrying 80,000 a day round town. To A 2 tonne metal box, which kills hundreds of thousands a year and if it doesn't get you in the short term it will kill you in the long term, carrying one person.

I wonder if the monumental ballache that it was giving car drivers led to a reduction in traffic also assisting with the congestion. I do accept such ballaches aren't ideal to stop car dependency, but it was fun while it lasted.

The whole town centre is, and always has been, single lane or pedestrian. Except for the one section from the Broadwater bottleneck to the Morrisons bottleneck. As with Brighton, I don't agree with location, love the decisiveness of the decision, but let's not pretend prior to that cycle lane...
