So why pick one pub that gets slammed called a cafeteria, average, a glorified Harvester, and rank ordinary?
Esp as you'll have to drive past one recommendation in Houghton, and you can all but see another in Burpham, from the Black Rabbit.
Done it many a time, just not with a blooming great big burger in my stomach.
Leaving South Harting heading south are the hardest climbs.
But the worst of all is descending the 's' bends, after the long climb to Harting Down and turning left straight into the 15% climb heading to (Straight...
As said I don't really have a problem with that, they have a cash cow and they're flogging it.
TBH in the same position I doubt any of us would do anything different.
For me the problem comes when the clientele try to convince others the pub is something it clearly isn't.
Thanks to West Hoathly Seagull I now want to eat a homemade burger with Cheesy Baconnaisup.{bacon, cheese, mayo, ketchup} in the http://www.royaloakhooksway.co.uk/index.html
It'll either make me  or
Most, if not all.
It's a glorified Harvester charging simpleton's top end money for low grade food, £11 for Ham Egg and Chips, please.
Fair play to them, I don't have a problem with that policy.
I just don't enjoy the thought of been squeezed onto a tiny table, unable to hear my company or for...
T'internet suggests it's still there, and looking good.
I only know 2 things about the place:-
1 - Seeing the signpost for it means I'm just about to ride up a long climb.
&
B - It's better than The Black Rabbit.
Booo, such a shame.
Sadly that's not a surprising outcome when a proper country/village pub is presented with the opportunity for change.
Oh well onwards and upwards in the search for 'West Sussex pubs nobody else knows about'.
If we're spreading our wings a little, I've always had a soft spot for The George at Eartham.
While The Fox Goes Free, Goodwood, should cater to the sheeple on this thread recommending The Black Rabbit.
Me neither, anyway you can't go as we've decided it no longer exists and in fact there has never been a pub in Sutton, which is a shame. :lolol:
Come to think of it, when I took the geeks out for a ride round there I even took them round the long way, so they didn't go past it.
Top...
Yeah now you come to mention it I don't the The White Horse actually exists, I think I only dreamt about it.
We had one of our worst experiences in your local, The Swan, ages ago.
The landlord was so objectionable he spent the whole time of our visit (a rapidly drunk pint) seriously berating...
It's certainly all about location location location.
Sutton is well signed, as there's nothing else to write on the signposts.
The road naturally take you to the pub, although the longer route round does have the advantage of missing the 20% slope.
I doubt there are many NSC'ers who even know...
If you fancied somewhere new try The White Horse in Sutton - http://www.whitehorse-sutton.co.uk.
Take the first left coming down Bury Hill, and weave your way through the hamlets (past the Bignor Roman Villa) to Sutton. (no more than 10 mins from Whiteways).
It doesn't get much more...
