People are harsh about Ryan on here. He was decent enough for us really. We've had an upgrade since of course, but we stayed up with him in goal for a couple of seasons, and it wasn't in spite of his presence.
So onto Mexico Poland then. This one ought to be a good one now that KSA have blown the group wide open.
Poland have Matty Cash playing for them, which is nice.
I can't really understand why more wasn't made of that. Absolute blatant push in the back by the Danish number 7 well before the ball reached the defender whose hand it hit.
Games at World Cups are played across several hours. Look at this one - match 1 at 10am, match 4 at 7pm. With that in mind, I doubt the time difference is much of an issue, certainly no more than an Olympic games.
Yes, a Morocco or Morocco/Tunisia joint bid would be great. I'd say an Australian bid needs to be considered at some point too. Ridiculous that Qatar was chosen over their bid.
Indeed. I reckon all the teams in the tournament will have at least one game where they play well - even Qatar. And I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see Iran beat one of the other two teams in our group.
Saudis there in big numbers, the Tunisians in massive numbers.
It's not like there aren't massive numbers of arabs who are into football, so why the f**k have they given this tournament to the one arab nation that isn't interested?
As a side issue, the last Argentina off-side illustrates the need for a rule change. He was offside because part of his arm was in front.
Surely it's time to only consider the feet positioning in offside decisions?
It's certainly a shock but the gap between best and worst at major tournaments has shrunk enormously over the course of the last 30 years. People need to pay more attention to world rankings and recent performances. Psychobilly freakout was on here earlier talking about this being a cricket...
Spot on and agree that all the decisions have been correct. The Saudis have certainly been second-best but have defended with discipline and look lively going forward. 1-0 is about right IMO.
One goal was a dubious pen when it didn't matter. You're wrong if you think people won't take notice of that result. Iran are no mugs, but we made them look incredibly ordinary.
And no, I don't think Argentina will find it anything like as easy as you say. We'll see.
Obviously they should win, but Saudi Arabia were the strongest Asian team to qualify and this will feel like a home game you'd think. Could be interesting...
Indeed. Never going to happen I'm afraid. When you look at the clubs their squad plays for, there are only a handful playing at clubs only football fans will have actually heard of. Aaron Mooy is at Celtic - probably the player at the biggest club in their squad, and yet he doesn't even start.
