Being the best team for one day every five is NOT competing, especially when you consider that we dominated a full day in 2 days over the course of the series - we probably shaded another day. By contrast, Australia completely dominated 12 days and shaded another 6 or 7.

Well I'd say the bottom line is that we were outplayed in every department. There isn't a single area where we've competed well. That's why I'm so irritated with our key players talking up their performances.

What annoys me more than the gutless nature of this series defeat is Joe Root's (and others) insistence throughout the tour that we were at any point competitive. We've been absolutely slaughtered and nearly all our players have been complete turd.

Agreed. If Bairstow is a notorious slow starter, then just drop him one down the order and let Ali come in. Night watchmen are just a stupid idea. It just makes a mockery of the whole reason behind putting your best batsmen in before the rabbits.

I'm of the opposite view. Night watchman is an absolutely shìt concept, so I'm glad Bairstow went out. A recognised batsman ought to be able to see out two overs, and just because he didn't on this occasion doesn't prove that it was a bad idea.
