Harsh, IMO. He's a bit raw having missed out on a chance to play in the top flight on treble his current salary. However, if he's still moping and putting in underwhelming performances in two months time, I'll be as annoyed as you are. I guess the next few weeks will tell us more about the...

31/8: Stephens hands in transfer request

I used to quite like Burnley before last season, but after that 2-2, Joey Barton and now this Stephens kerfuffle, I can't stand the two bob twunts any more.
I'm not convinced that he's "unhappy" anyway. He's seen an opportunity to play in the top flight and wants the chance to take it. But when this dies down, there is no reason for him to sulk - he's still at a decent club with a puncher's chance of promotion next season if he plays well, and...
But it's not a message that we will stand in his way, it's just that it needs to be done properly. Clearly a transfer request handed in on 31st August is not fair to the club.
He might yet go, he probably won't now. I was never convinced he would go, personally - Burnley just aren't a big enough draw for the sake of one further season here.
That said, none of know the answer, but all of us know the reasoning behind the "FACT - he's gone" posts. Let's face it, that...
I suspect what has been said is something like "look, you're miles off our valuation - please don't waste our time with this sort of offer anymore"
If they had come back with 10-12m, it might have been different.
Albion have knocked back a FIFTH bid from Burnley for midfielder Dale Stephens worth over £7 million.
And they have told one of the clubs that pipped them to promotion last season not to bother coming back with another offer before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.
LOVELY. STUFF...
Plays tomorrow or there's definitely a chance he's off.
I say that because ultimately, it sounds like the club is playing hardball. Either we get what we want or he stays here. If that wasn't the case, we'd have taken one of Burnley's recent offers I think.
Agreed. I think with good reason - Norwood and Sidwell are not upgrades on Stephens, which is hardly a surprise. In fact, how much would an upgrade cost? Probably more than we're actually asking for.
I agree with Mellotron and my best guess is that he's been told he can leave if a club not in our division (so a club in the Prem) comes in at a price that we're happy with.
