I'm not suggesting what has or hasn't crossed there minds, I'm not privvy to their thinking.
But, I am totally convinced that FFP could have been constructed a whole lot better.
No, that's not even remotely what I mean and can't see where you get that idea
The Portsmouth situation was created by leveraging the clubs (over valued) assets and making financial commitments in the form of contracts that they didn't have the income to cover
Precisely what I'm suggesting...
Agree that FFP isn't about creating a level playing field ... it was my interpretation of what some others have been saying on this, and other similar, threads
Absolutely correct.
The one aspect that I think would be difficult to control is the rich shareholder coming along and pumping £xM into a club that then go out and sign a bunch of players on multi year contracts and the rich shareholder then exits and leaves the club with the commitment...
I think that's a different issue. I'll play by the rules but you cannot tell me how I should run my business.
I understand where you are coming from but I think we might need to agree to differ on this one!
I think the notion that the FL can set their own rules when it comes to how I (the shareholder) chose to invest in my business will be a fundamental that is challenged. I genuinely don't see it standing up if challenged in a court of law.
He owns the land so they might think they could flog it to someone like xxxx grocery store or xxxx house builders, which might well be worth more than a 2nd tier football club?
Except that there is no RRP on Sponsorship so it will be a question of degrees.
Plus if I want to sponsor my favourite club and it's my decision to pay (say) £20M for the privilege I really can't see how the FL can stop me, even if it isn't "the going rate"
It's a can of worms for sure
Him and others ... but there will likely be an opposing lobby. Somewhere there will be a compromise but the way it is now it's too restrictive and just cant see it holding up under a legal challenge.
Fairly certain they'll get away with it by playing the sponsorship card. It remains to be seen how much the FL challenge it or even close it off. I'm not that optimistic and still think FFP is a crock of shit the way it's structured (not the intent)
