I'm not deluded, as I don't believe we will spend it. I would like us to spend a fair amount of it, but don't think we will, unfortunately.
You're looking at it in a business way, ie we have losses, we've just had a big windfall, let's pay off our debts, spend somevof it and put some money...
Well, funnily enough, I have said on previous threads that I didn't want us to go for Abraham. I was just using it as an example of how we won't (I believe) go that extra yard to get a target.
But we've got £100m coming our way.
Spend £8-10m each on 3 players, pay them 40k/week each, on 3 year contracts comes to £48m over 3 years. Not even half of the first year's money.
I'm sure all players get signing-on fees, so all clubs face the same costs. Stephens must have done. If you want a player you need to bite the bullet.
I know what people are saying about paying money, of course I do. But we have been at the Amex for 6 years and we've finally made it to the...
Not overpay. Pay the going rate, like other clubs have/will.
Take Abraham for example. If it is true that he wanted £1m to sign, and that was the stumbling block, we have lost a player that we wanted for the sake of 1/100 of our TV income from next season.
I'm uncomfortable with the amount...
Of course we are all grateful for what Tony has done for this club. However, football is an expensive game, and we're playing with the big boys now. The reason we don't get most of our targets is most probably because others are prepared to pay more than us.
The worrying things for me are that the club frequently tells us that there is no point recruiting new players if they're not an improvement on what we've got. Apart from Murray, as previously stated none of the loanees became starters.
I also have this nagging feeling that the club tries to...
