There I was thinking he scored SIX goals and was possibly the best player in the tournament. Might be hard to hear but Colombia ARE a similar stature team to us nowadays, and it would be no shame losing narrowly to them.
I'm not convinced losing to a team containing James Rodriguez would be "piss poor". We're probably about the 10th best country in the world right now, man for man. Colombia would be similar for me.
Agree on any of those bar Colombia. On their day, easily capable of beating us. Decent side, them.
We should make quarters (but no further if it's Brazil or Germany as expected), but getting to 2nd round playing decent football wouldn't be horrendous compared to our recent tournaments.
By this logic, no chance Germany are winning the WC, as they lost 2-1 to Austria the other day. Spain drew with Switzerland as well so rule them out. Anyone else?
We can consistently get decent results against top sides in friendlies. We have the ability, I believe it is a mental block now about tournaments that we need to overcome. Look at our performance against Iceland for proof.
Nigeria. The team we played in the last friendly. The 11 we put out against them looks like it will be the team that starts against Tunisia, with maybe 1 or 2 changes.
Absolutely this. We’ve looked solid and cohesive and, at times, are playing quite nice football.
Not quite sure what people are expecting, our reserves just very comfortably beat Costa Rica, and our recent results include a win over Holland, and draws with Italy, Brazil and Germany.
**** me...
This is classic “find a way to slag off England”. If we played the same 11 all the time people would say he’s run out of ideas, or why isn’t he giving the fringe players a go as they might be called upon.
It looks like the team vs Nigeria will pretty much be the team barring 1/2 changes.
