FFO - Brian Eno, Tycho
So much electronic music is by the numbers, copy and paste atmosphere nowadays, attractive female singer with breathy meaningless vocals. This isn't. This is genuinely creative, well thought-out electronic music.
Absolutely gorgeous...
Sorry if anyone else has banged on about it, but my word the new The National album is just....gorgeous. Possibly my favourite of theirs.
Also, Queens of the Stoneage's Villians is great. Those 2 + Slowdive are my albums of the year so far.
Remember being in Rounder Records many years ago (well, it must've been 2004) and hearing this great music that sounded vaguely Bowie-ish, or Talking Heads-ish. Then I saw the front cover of Funeral. And I just knew I'd love it, and bought it there and then.
I acknowledge he does come across rather....preachy (pun intended), and I struggle for a whole album at once. Give Ballad of the Dying Man a go.
For slowdive, I feel confident you should enjoy it if you like Cigarettes After Sex. Especially Slomo, Sugar for The Pill and No Longer Making Time.
My 2017 so far;
slowdive - slowdive - All been said on here already really. Transcendent. Takes me back to first hearing Interpol and Sigur Ros. Otherworldly beauty.
Mew - Visuals - Back on track after the last couple of albums for me. Prog-pop with some of the early and much needed bite back...
No space for Father John Misty? Some of the lyrics are stunning.
Another shout for Vök, really enjoyed that. And Cigarettes After Sex, a really nice midpoint between Slowdive, early Interpol and Beach House. Which also makes me very surprised there's no mention of Slowdive?
Not had a chance to fully digest the album but I am hopelessly in love with this track;

FFO - Stevie Wonder, late Beatles/McCartney/Wings, Elton John
It's SO good. I can't believe how young they are, to come out with such a mature and considered tone. Plenty of bands have done the...
Kanye MASSIVELY disappeared up his own arse, can't think of a better example of The Emperor's New Clothes. He could fart into a bucket for 2 hours and it would still win a Grammy.
Really enjoyed Thundercat on Jools couple of weeks back. Will give KW a go.
Vaguely in this genre I really loved the new Childish Gambino album. Great vibe to it.
Some earlier M83 might fit the bill more, like Run Into Flowers off DeadCities...? The National probably my 2nd favourite band behind the 'pol.
Ha, same...
The PDA outro is transcendent - It's those chord changes with the reverbed guitar, just phenomenal. Getting the same from No Longer Making Time. There's a bit in Leif Erikson (last track on TOTBL) which is just....I don't have words for it.
I'd love to see them live. I know I bang on about them but Interpol provide a similar euphoric yet melancholic feeling - am seeing them on their Turn On The Bright Lights anniversary tour in September. Will be 6th or 7th time.
Just ordered the new Slowdive album on silver vinyl. It's REALLY good, isn't it? Can definitely hear their influence on Interpol, much more so than the lazy Joy Division comparisons...
