Thing is, Gus has always lived by the principle that if one of his players wanted to play at a higher level, he would NEVER stand in their way. Perhaps he felt the club should've taken the same attitude towards him.

Yet tabloid newspapers CONSTANTLY try to force us into seeing everything in black and white.

I think this is probably all about right. Which makes people who are obsessed with "Club GOOD, Poyet BAD" look stupid, as are "Poyet GOOD, Club BAD". As with anything, it's never black and white, always shades of grey.

I don't think that alone would've made him SUDDENLY hate a job he previously loved. Could be wrong though.
