Said it before, will say it again. Try brushing your teeth after dinner.

I caught myself with a straight face using the word "calorific" the other day. Ugh.

Good stuff. It's almost completely cut out my snacking, being aware of how many calories I have left per day. That along with jogging has meant losing over a stone and a half in about 2 months.

How's everyone doing? The myfitnesspal has been an absolute revelation for me, would highly, highly recommend it for those who are willing to stick in what they eat, it's nice and easy, keeps tabs on your regular foods and produces some handy graphs regarding the type of calories you're consuming.

Not saying this as a boast (hardly seems a boast considering Herr's rather more impressive post above) but as encouragement to others who struggle with weight and fitness. I just ran 8.5 miles. Even a month ago or so I wouldn't have dreamed of that length. About a year ago I remember running...

Do you have a clear goal? I would suggest possibly having a long term goal (i.e. be a certain weight by say, 3 months time, or even Christmas) then also have shorter term goals to keep it current and relevant (i.e. I will jog X many miles this month, or something similar).

Quite. I have slowly but surely educated myself with eating and now genuinely enjoy some very healthy meals. I don't think it necessarily works for people to have a very sudden shift of diet as they will feel they're depriving themselves, get depressed and probably end up bingeing and then...

You eat really well. And yes, healthy stuff that doesn't all sound dull as dishwater. One that me and the MISSUS love and always get in Spain is their simple tuna salads - get a fresh bit of tuna, sear it's face off, chuck in with lettuce, cucumber and tomato, drizzle with olive oil and a...

Really? Doesn't that mostly build muscles though, that weigh more than fat? Surely cardio is the most efficient way, no?

    1. Agree. 2. Agree. 3. Disagree, unless you're willing to walk for HOURS. Source: Paul T Williams, of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, said the findings were surprising but showed the key factor was the number of calories worked off in each form of activity. ‘Walking and...

    Losing Weight

How's everyone getting on? Have been using MyFitnessPal for about 3+ weeks now and have lost half a stone already. Not starving myself, eating fairly regularly but probably cutting down on snacking a fair bit as it's depressing having to log all that food in. Also jogging a lot, which...

I understand completely how frustrating this can be, especially when you are starting to see improvements in health etc. My knees really suffered when I did a lot of jogging a couple of years back. A few things I did: 1. Take up swimming - non loading bearing exercise, far easier on your...

    Losing Weight

I'd like to throw out there to anyone on this thread: Is there a way to properly enjoy your food and still stay in good shape? I know for me the issue is more what/how much I eat than the amount of exercise I do, as I definitely do more exercise than a lot of slimmer friends of mine.

I do find it useful that the app breaks down not only how much you eat, but of what type of food. I hate Bananas so sadly my Potassium column is at 0. At the end of the day when you hit "Finish My Diary" it comes up with a useful little encouraging message too.

:bounce: Started using the My Fitness Pal app - think its really gonna help and am determined to stick to it. I would suggest you set specific goals with set time frames, this helped me massively in the past with losing 3 stone over about 6/7 months.
