Well done on getting them, and I trust their name got a few on here to see them.
I was elsewhere over the w/e, and only just seen this post, but would have made it if I could. I'm really enjoying that The Comet is Coming album. How were Soccer96?
Mercury tonight.
Shortlisted six were The 1975, Radiohead, Laura Mvula, David Bowie, Skepta and Michael Kiwanuka
There was a brilliant Jonny and Thom video produced by Paul Thomas Anderson -- well worth checking out.
Juror Jarvis indicated that the winner was between two black artists, with...
Just got it today, and it might get the chance to listen to it this afternoon, but have a busy w/e, with the Jazz Festival, etc, but Resident also waxed lyrical about it.
Aah. Me now understand your comment. You now beginning to understand what others have been through. I've been very poor this year at gig attendance, but have really enjoyed the few I've been to.
By own thread, do you mean: Albums of 2016?
I'm of the view that this year is much better than last. Current faves include Shake by The Thing, Imarhan and I'm really enjoying Michael Kiwanuka's Love and Hate (for which, thanks Buzzer), which is quite an eclectic collection.
PS you are allowed...
You are of a similar age than me although, given that I prefer Joy Division (and obsessed about them in my teenage years) to New Order, I'm probably three years older than you. But you have a greater understanding and depth of knowledge of music than I.
Haven't seen any of those videos.
Once again you're demonstrating that your musical understanding is far in advance of mine, and I agree with much of what you say especially re soundtracks, and am incapable of responding to much else. All I can say which is/might be different is:
-- as much as I like Abattoir Blues, Lyre of...
I've just picked up my copy, and am half-way through. First impressions are extremely positive -- especially Decks Dark and Ful Stop -- and I like your 'meander' characterisation.
You've mentioned Aphex Twin before, and think you're looking into that too much. I have to read a lot for my work, and I find lyrics a distraction when reading, so favour instrumental music when working (when I probably listen to most music). That means I listen to too much post-rock...
I don't think the sheer brilliance of P J Harvey is sufficiently recognised. I know it wasn't an easy listen and wasn't widely received, but that White Chalk piano-led album she did really worked for me. Her entire output is extremely impressive, but I still remain incredibly attached to Rid of Me.
Surprised that you haven't heard Blackstar or The Hope Six Demolition Project. I suspect that the latter will be in an end of the year list for me, as will Anohni and, hopefully, Radiohead, although I'm yet to hear that yet.
I'd be interested to see your list, as you're a prodigious contributor...
