Actually i’ve saved quite a bit by using timers etc for overnight usage and have done for years and don’t know anyone having a. Issue with fires ..I’ll trust my judgement but thanks for the advice

They do pay 5% interest on credit balances which until the last few months of base rate rises, was a million times (ok I exaggerate a tad) better than your bank savings account ..on the flip side it gives them nice cash flow!

Not sure there are ‘deals’ to be had with energy suppliers currently …I note the OP had a happy ending (lucky chap) ..I’m with OVO and have at least found their customer service to be very good and at least open to negotiation
