Despite never having been a user I am aware of this. My negative attitude to Facebook and the like is not directly aimed at the sites as such, more the concept of living your life in full public view of the internet.

I think there's a fair and obvious distinction between forums like NSC and what I would refer to as 'social media' with the whole this is my real name, this is my family, these are my friends here are photos of all of us, this is a photo of me in the club where I'll always be on Thursday evening...

Never had any kind of social media account whatsoever. The term 'social media' actually makes me uptight. Hate it.
